This group needs a little bit of numismatic poetry! 🪙✨

Dear forum,

First of all, I am absolutely delighted and happy to belong to this highly select and important group of people who share a deep love for coins, banknotes, and all aspects of collectibles.

Lately, I’ve been reading through many posts here, and I truly enjoy seeing how members highlight and immortalize the pure beauty of their specimens. Just recently, I came across a thread where someone was showcasing a lot of nickel coins for sale. This person posted videos and photos of their pieces, and I was struck by a comment from another member who wrote: "I have just spent 50 minutes staring at the beautiful pieces you have."

To me, that is where numismatic poetry truly lives. It’s not just about grades or prices; it’s about that pure fascination that can make someone stop time just to admire the beauty of metal.

Because of this, I wanted to take the initiative to open this thread dedicated to numismatic poetry. Has anyone here ever experienced that same poetic feeling? What is that one coin in your collection that can make you stop and just stare at it for nearly an hour?

And I will start the poem myself:

"To think that everything begins as a simple alloy,
or sometimes searching for the finest material:
    silver, copper, gold, nickel...
It begins with an artist shaping it on a large scale,
seeking the finest detail and reliefs that captivate the eye.
After this, it is transferred to small molds and dies,
and the dies stamp the metal with such high, striking, and blissful quality
that it enchants everyone who loves this numismatic art."

I would love to read your stories!

    The collectors creed:

What is so perfect in mine

Thank you very much for breaking the ice in my thread, my friend, and for giving us the first poem shared by a fellow member of this forum!

Your words perfectly capture the essence of this hobby. There is something deeply magical about holding a worn piece and thinking about how many hands touched it throughout history; what the world sees as "wear and tear," we see as pure living history. Your line about the collector's creed is magnificent.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone who wants to join this thread: if you feel inspired to add your own poetry, please also include a photo of the piece in your collection that you love the most and makes you stop to just admire it!

Thank you for sharing your numismatic sensitivity, PKing! May the wind always blow in your favor too.

    Thank you so much
    to everyone who
    has joined in to
    share their poems!

    I have a great
    surprise for you.

    By the end of
    this year, the user
    whose poem gets the
    most "Likes" or
    interactions will
    win a special prize.

    I promise to send
    the winner a beautiful
    collectible shirt,
    custom-designed
    by myself.

    Here is the official
    preview of the design!

    To create it,
    I borrowed a little
    piece of your own
    history.

    I wanted to honor
    one of the most
    emblematic coins
    in your monetary
    system.

    One of the most
    beloved pieces
    by all of you,
    featuring one of your
    most important icons
to ever be on a coin:
    Lincoln.

    It shows a classic
    vintage minting press
    striking the iconic
    1909 cent, along
    with my personal
    brand, DR. COIN .ec

    I know it might
    not be much,
    but I truly hope
    you will like it.

    The contest runs
    until the end
    of the year!

    Keep those beautiful
    poems coming!

    The Stamp of Time

Not for the shine of gold is what I keep,
nor for the polished silver on the shelf,
I collect the trails of life itself,
where tears were shed and tired hands would reap.

This little piece of worn and faded copper,
with its profile erased by passing years,
warmed the cold of many standard-bearers
and joined two strangers, making ties much proper.

It holds the worker's sweat within its lines,
the warm bread that a father brought one night,
the miracle of an afternoon so bright,
and sighs of long-gone, sorrowful goodbyes.

Its patina is not neglect or stain,
it is the touch of time and living art,
the fingerprint that left upon its part
the history of the humble and their pain.

I look at catalogs with price and grade,
of rarities and dates that they retain,
but the greatest value, sacred and main,
is the hands of those who held what had been made.

Because a coin is only metal, cold,
if it has never crossed the bridge of fate,
if it has never fed an empty plate,
or healed a lonely heart with love untold.

I keep within my album more than gold:
fragments of human life that never die,
faces that time turned into a sigh,
bound by the moon in stories to be told.

    The Dream of Seventy

Go now, my love, to PCGS, where clear glass walls await,
To seal your royal beauty and forever guard your fate.
No human hands shall touch you, no passage of the years,
Shall dim the flawless luster that my lonely heart reveres.

I send you to your castle, a plastic, sacred shrine,
Where experts bow before you and declare your grade divine.
They’ll lock you in that tower, untouched by rust or mold,
A sovereign in a fortress made of copper, mint, and gold.

For in my deepest slumbers, a vision comes to me,
I see your fields resplendent with a Perfect Seventy.
A flawless, blinding strike, the grade of which I pray,
Oh, may this midnight dream become reality today!

Sleep well inside your armor, my timeless, silver king,
A thousand watchful eyes protect the crown and joy you bring.
Enclosed in crystal glory, your reign will never die,
The fairest piece of history beneath the open sky.

    Dear Forum,

I have decided to make a slight change to the rules for the prize I promised!

To make it even better, the custom T-shirt will now be fully personalized. The winner can choose an image of their absolute favorite coin, or they can pick the exact numismatic theme/context they want printed on it!

I want to make sure the winner gets something truly unique to celebrate their passion. Good luck to everyone!

To show you a bit of my creativity, I wanted to share this design I prepared for the recent convention.

This is an example of how the winner's custom prize could look! I wanted to show you my skills so you can see what is waiting for the champion.

    Finally, the day arrived—the long-awaited moment! 🎉🪙

Today I woke up with a huge smile seeing that, thanks to all of you, we were able to pass the 100 likes mark that I have been working so hard for these past few days. I feel truly happy.

I want to take this moment to say a few words. First of all, I apologize and hope not to offend anyone who thinks differently from me, as I view things with the utmost respect and it is not my intention to impose my point of view.

In recent days, when the post counter for members was removed, some comments came up suggesting that having posts or likes wasn't really relevant. On one hand, I completely understand that for those who have already accumulated thousands of posts and likes over time, those numbers might not mean much anymore. But on the other hand, for those of us who are newer to the community and are earning our first badges, it is an achievement that fills us with passion and motivates us so much to keep contributing more and more.

From my very personal point of view, and just as a simple comment from me, I feel that every reply combined with a person's "like" reflects their talent, passion, and wisdom in this numismatic field, and very especially in this forum. To me, it is a reflection of the time and care we all share for this beautiful hobby.

A big hug and my infinite gratitude to each and every one of you who added your grain of sand to help reach these 104 likes. This achievement and this celebration cake belong to all of us! 🎂🎈

    With much appreciation,
    ricarf2386
