And, are you keeping the one that you have? If not, how will you feel when they eventually sell out (like the Buffaloes, they will) if they start increasing in value, as they might?

With a one per household limit, there have to have been a ton of orders the mint will be kicking out as they check.
My guess is we'll see another opening.
Nope. There was never a problem ordering on Thursday, and the HHL was lifted at noon on Friday. Nothing will be getting kicked on this one for violating the HHL.
Well, now its open again, this time without a household limit. So there's that.

That was a question I had. Let's say I used a couple of different accounts with the same address and ordered several BOH4's on Thursday. Because they hadn't sold out by the time the HHL was lifted on Friday, would that mean they would have shipped me all of them? Or would they have canceled all but one?

I suppose it depends on how deceptive someone is, and whether the mint's systems are able to detect it. I'm sure some of the whales use a combination of different addresses, names and phone numbers to buy multiples of severely limited mintages.
At 15,000, the high $, and the difference in price between the its cost and spot expanding pretty significantly, It isn't surprising that this was reopened and there isn't a household limit
Just got them. I did happen to get a Hollis card. Nice case. It also has an informational booklet. I decidedly do not have a professional graders eye, but they look good. Nothing obvious for a strike against. Very nice set overall.

Beautiful set! Not surprised to see Director Hollis has cut down the length of what he's written from BOM 1 to BOM 4......that's a lot of cards!
The winner in these sets is the silver medal. At an estimated cost of $250 (the cost of the set minus the cost of a gold buffalo - used as an estimate for what the 1804 would be by itself), the fact that these medals cannot be obtained by themselves, the limited number of people who will break the set, and the price of the gold coin in comparison, these make a highly desirable alternative to collect if you can get one.

Glitch. As I said was likely if someone didn't just buy them all.
You appear to have been playing both sides of the fence with your commentary, or am I missing something.
You are missing something. My commentary was very clear -- that the Mint did not just unilaterally pull items from sale in order to goose the secondary market.
I said from the very beginning that it was either a website glitch, OR that one or more large dealers came in and scooped up the remaining inventory. AND, that we would all see this week, when either the missing items returned to ATS, as they have, or the 3400 would show up in the weekly sales report.
No both sides of the fence, given that the "fence" was whether the Mint pulled inventory. Not whether it was sold or temporarily disappeared.

No way to know for sure, because no one who knows what they are doing tries that. Maybe you should try it some time, and be the DP you seek.

Yes. People who know what they are doing use F&F accounts with different names, addresses and credit cards to game the HHL. No one tries using the same address, since it is literally a "household limit," not an "account limit."
I'm not sure why people are focusing on the HHL here. The ATS glitch happened Saturday morning. The HHL was lifted at noon on Friday.

Do the medal and coin have to go thru separate PCGS orders for these BoM sets?
I just packed up my BOM3 to send to PCGS. If you fill out the online form, it WILL split the medal and coin into two separate orders. I think it's based on price, though. Not because it's a medal and a coin. If you declared the value to be $100 for each, then you'd probably have them on one.
What's weird is I tossed my uncirculated 2026 Peace dollar in there, too (medal & dollar are on one order, Walker is on the other) but it wouldn't give me the option to select First Strike. After a lot of fumbling around, I found this description: 2026-(W) $1 Enhanced Peace Dollar w/ Liberty Bell 250 Privy FS and I put a comment in there saying "please mark this first strike." So we'll see how it goes!
Sorry for the late response on this, but FYI, the online submission process puts your coins in the cheapest tiers by default. But you'd probably find if you're just submitting these two coins that it's probably cheaper to submit the medal at the Express level (with the gold coin) because you'll save a $10 handling fee and an extra return shipping fee and you'll get sequential cert numbers and you'll get the medal much faster for very little difference in cost.

What do you all think of the longer term prospects for this coin set?
Personally, I've been waiting to purchase one since seeing the mint's original announcement, as it will become a wonderful element in my personal collection. I'm not too excited about BoM1 & 3 as their silver medals leave a lot to be desired, IMO.
I'm a bit concerned about how significant the premium to melt is, on this and other mint offerings now. Kind of staggering.
Does it give you pause gauging the relative sparse activity on this thread to compared with most other highly sought after lower mintage gold issues in recent years, paired with the fact that this set is still available at this point without any household limit?
Is it that many Modern collectors are experiencing significant burn out?
Funny, I recall the 2008-w fractional gold buffalo sets when gold was a the staggeringly "expensive" price of $880+ an ounce after spending most of 2007 in the $500s, the mint kept their orders open with sales limping into year end. Now look at them.

I like it. I'm not predicting a home run, but the silver medal seems to be doing very well on its own, and I think these might be discovered once they sell out.
Right now, we are just dealing with the psychology of people not wanting what they can readily obtain. All the nonsense over the weekend, with people lamenting opportunities lost when they thought the Mint pulled the unsold inventory, very clearly illustrates this.
The premium is in line with all their other premiums. Other than, of course, the Liberty Bells.
The mintage is in line with other one ounce gold product. The design is iconic and beloved.
The FH gold coin from 2 years ago has held its premium even though the price of gold went up by around $2K. I happen to think the remaining inventory will disappear in the next few weeks. Especially if people go bargain hunting in response to a dip in the price of gold.
And, are you keeping the one that you have? If not, how will you feel when they eventually sell out (like the Buffaloes, they will) if they start increasing in value, as they might?
No more to be sure.
I'm not sure what I'll do. I was leaning towards heading downtown to return them on Wed. Just not sure. They are awesome looking. The medal is doing very well, which offsets some of the huge premium to spot. Just not sure. I'll decide on Wed.
I'm 0/3 w/Hollis cards. You guys lucked out.
The only reason I bought the Buffalo this year is because I have purchased at least one of every single one in the series since it's inception. Many years. it has been the only expensive coin that I buy. It probably was not the smartest series to chase. Retrospectively , I wish I had purchased one of each UHR every other year. I did not like one of them which sort of turned me off from the series. However, it has turned out to be amazing. Of course, the volume of gold in the Buffalo series is much higher, so the appreciation over time has been great, but at today's gold prices its been hard to continue.
Well I was wrong about my guess that they were done with them, but for me it doesn't matter because when I get my coin it will just join all the other coins I have. I'm not worried about premium to spot or current value or possible future resale value of either the medal or the coin. I think they are cool and would be way more cool without the privy, but it is what it is.
do these have to be submitted on 2 different forms; one for the gold coin and one for the silver medal?
have read and read and read and I can't make sense of the submission guidelines for these or find a resource online that describes exactly how to submit these mixed coin/medal sets for grading - tyia

You can submit them on the same form but they would have to both be Express level if submitted together. The other option is Express for the gold and Modern Value for the silver if you value it at $300 or less. FWIW, you can submit any US coin under $10k at the express level if you want to pay $70 to have it graded.

Never confuse bullion increases with increasing numismatic interests.
FWIW, I wouldn't touch BOM4 as an "investment". But it's perfectly fine as a coin in a collection.

I very much dislike the incongruous privy mark on the obverse of the 1804 gold piece. It cheapens the otherwise superb design and is very distracting. Now, every time I look an image of the coin, it immediately catches my eye and I can't unsee it,

In hand, at least to me, it's not distracting at all. My eye is drawn to Liberty's cheek, hair, and neck. The relief is extremely appealing and the execution is meticulous. The privy is almost an afterthought.

It's a random 250 buyers of each of the 5 sets to be released. I got one on BOM 1 but none since (pending my opening of this one tonight)
