Anpanman Train Headed to Kochi Japan where Anpanman was created by Cartoonist Yanase Takashi
(He was getting ready to retire in 2011 when the devastating Earthquake and Tsunami struck Japan. As he watched the destruction on Japanese TV he heard children who lost everything singing the Anpanman Theme Song. This inspired him to forego retiring and instead he assisted in the recovery efforts by continuing to create Anpanman characters and stories to uplift the children. He died at the age of 94 two years later.
Apart from being a cartoonist he wrote lyrics for children.s songs and poetry. The TV series based on Anpanman had more than 1,700 characters earning it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.)
Anpanman is a children's Superhero who embodies qualities of kindness and giving. Pan is the Japanese word for bread. An is a Japanese sweetened bean paste often used to fill Japanese pastries. Anpanman's head is made of bread and it is filled with bean paste. When he encounters hungry staving children he lets them eat a part of his head which then grows back.
