Foreign coins listed in Greysheet

A local dealer who gets a subscription was surprized that Greysheet was listing reales coins, British coins. Just thought I'd mention it.

    Huh. I would be curious to see it but I imagine the values would vary wildly for all but the most common coins.

    The prices are a good starting point; I was glad to see they were doing it.

    They have been listing them for some time. Some prices are better than others, but it’s a start.

    I am skeptical… as usual. The problem with this concept is that quality is overlooked as the benchmark in favor what might be passable… and often to those that are on a different path in numismatics. Just another small step toward the goal of becoming the Walter Matthau of Numismatics.

    Where exactly is it getting the prices from?

    I doubt any I have are included, but I don't know the value. I estimate it in my inventory sheet using closest comparable recent sales but it's very judgmental.

    This is like when Greysheet had their type coins pricing in various categories of US coins. This is pricing for the very common issues.

    Nobody is forced to buy or sell at greysheet prices. If they work for you, great. If not, that's okay too.

    True enough, but then why put out a guide that may not reflect realistic prices?

    The people putting out the guide don't think the prices they're reporting are realistic? Somehow, I doubt that.

    I provided pricing information at the very start for one large series (192 coins) and it was quite accurate. Greysheet took that information and actually increased the numbers of grades listed and took it from there. I applaud their efforts and hope they continue to improve. I have one small disappointment, but that is very much overshadowed by the good work they are doing.

    Until I see the listings I will withhold personal judgement - I have, let's just say, PLENTY of experience with cataloguing late milled British pre-decimal.
