I watched the ATS bounce back and forth from 0 to about 1000 several times on the quarters today. Also noticed a new human verification on the final checkout screen.

My son and I will be heading down to the d c store in the morning. It will be interesting to see what these things really look like. I'll see how sales are going and how it looks like it will turn out and then decide on getting any.
I'll let you guys know how things look from the mint store. At this price, I would be surprised.If there is much of a line.

I can't answer you honestly with any background in that, but I would imagine, in time, they will be able to figure out a way to do it. I remember back in the early days of the internet, forum groups were established for "pay for clicks" rewards to clicking on ads. Many different programs were built to sit all day and click on pre-assigned spots on the computer screen to keep the user "active" while he or she played golf, etc.
Thanks for keeping us posted tomorrow on DC. After the price is set later today, I expect some more "on the fence" buyers to say "nah!" As far as I know, there is ZERO interest from buyer's groups on this one.

I was by the DC Store. The guy said that at this price he does not expect a long line. Of course, anything could happen, but he seems like he's been there a while.

I agree with him. The consensus is building that this will be a lot easier to obtain tomorrow than originally feared when we first saw what it looked like and then were told the mintage would be half of the first 3.

I ordered one from the Mint. Got a 70. Beautiful coin. But, it seemed to not be going anywhere. I needed a few $ for a classic coin that I was after. So, I met another forum member at the Balto. show and sold it for $4400. Seller's remorse ever since. I LOVE the coin. I love the message. Ugh.
We have sunflowers growing literally everywhere on our property, so this is one in the "keeper" pile.

I returned it due to the rim defects that I posted about when it arrived.
I can definitely understand how no buyers remorse return policy could decrease buyer's club flippers. However, most businesses let one return product in original condition for any reason. If the Mint not I think it would depress sales. Sometimes you don't know what something looks like until you have it in hand.

Correct! This is why they do it in the first place.
Limiting it to damaged items would only encourage people to damage items in order to be allowed to return them. Even so, something is eventually going to have to give, given how cluster blank the gold Liberty Bells ended up being for the Mint.
Slow walking refunds is all the Mint can do right now to give people pause before exercising a risk free option. It sucks that you got caught up in that, given you are not an abusive speculator.
If It means suppressing sales, so be it. When Best Buy instituted a restocking fee in response to people buying big screen TVs before the Super Bowl and then returning them, it also cost them sales. But it also stopped abuse that cost them time and money.
The Mint making and shipping, and then having to refund, over a thousand gold Liberty Bells for which there was never any real demand, despite what at least one participant here apparently still believes, also cost a lot of time and money they will never recover.
Putting your damaged rim aside, plenty of folks return coins they think will not grade 70. That's abusive, since the Mint does not guarantee perfection.

To me, the 1500 being tied up is an annoyance. At least I can float it until the eventual refund & pay my statement in full as always. Those who laid out 19+K for a Bell and can't float the money to pay off the statement before the refund hits are really in for a soaking w the obscene CC interest rates.
Totally agree re returning coins thought to be 69s. I keep most in the OGP. A non-70 doesn't bother me, depending on the issue. This rim defect was so obvious I couldn't enjoy the coin. I kept tyring to overlook it but I could not. The reflectivity of the dinged surfaces were just too obvious and distracting. So, it had to go.
The TV thing is crazy. Of course, that's now a used product vs a coin returned as shipped in the OGP.

If it makes you feel any better, I believed your sold price may be off by quite a few hundred of dollars.
The original issue price was $4260 plus grading fee etc could easily put your cost in the $4400 range.
Just a wild guess 😜

I'm going from memory. May have been more. My thought was to get what I'd get on ebay net of fees. I believe I did that. I listed it on the BST & met the buyer at the show. Wish I'd have kept it.

Right. Even with today’s drop we would be at the same issue price. If a sustained drop happens, those who wait a week will pick it up cheaper than today’s issue price.

I wonder how many of the classics collectors who don't buy moderns will go after these & the 1907.
The price is definitely a bit hurt. One could get some nice classics for that money.
To think that the issue price for the three coin gold eagle anniversary set was $2610. If gold ever should really go down all of this stuff will be SO under water.
