John Gideon Laidacker collection - amazing auction of raw Indian Head Cents!

I completely missed this auction of Raw Indian Head Cents. A few batches of these are hitting the market in PCGS holders with incredibly high grades (MS66RD-MS67RD). Talk about some "fresh" coins to the market.

Some of these lots of RAW Indian Head Cents went for absolute MOON MONEY, but are turning up in PCGS MS67RD CAC holders. Can't imagine paying $17,000 for 2 1899 Indian Head Cents that are raw.

    Yeah, quite some big discrepancies in bidding between lots of literally the same coins. Guess a few lots had something in them that most of us wouldn’t see…..

    As you no doubt know, just because some coins were of the same date doesn’t mean they were literally the same coins. The differing results confirm that bidders thought that some examples of the same date were very different coins (condition-wise).

    I wish I had that ability, but even after collecting for several decades I still can’t see what they do Mark. Just like Blay finding the only wheat cent that has ever graded an MS69. Just wonder how out of 10’s/100’s of millions of cents he found that SINGLE almost perfect specimen? And how so many of his collection were the top specimens and CAC’ed too!😉

    A quick look at these didn't yield any premium varieties that I could see. Just some really high grades that bidders were confident of getting. That takes some real grading skill and some guts to go that high on some common date IHCs. Amazing coins though!

    Definitely coins you would need to see in person!

    I love it! I snagged the J226 from you! Really rare to find a fresh pattern! The 1859 patterns are quite challenging minus the Judd-228.

    Edit: I just watched the video, nice commentary on the J-226. I found a J-300 in the wild a few years back that graded PF65. How exciting it is to find these!

    I still remember attending a FUN show with an original roll of IHC shown to me at a dealers table. So fresh - amazing luster. These cents remind me of that roll

    Is it known how the cents were found stored?

    I would think the full red is more likely to be preserved in a tight stack; roll or tube type of storage than an album or envelope format, but maybe it can survive those or other storage methods in the right conditions.
