Where does the new $1 "circulating" coin fit in?

The new $1 coin, is it part of an existing set? Is it a new type coin? What coin album would I put it in? The presidential dollar album? Do I need it for a type set? I'm confused.

Hasn't there already been a discussion on this exact issue?
The "new $1 coin" is a commemorative coin struck under the legislation that authorized coins commemorating the nation's 250th anniversary. It is not part of the Presidential Dollar series.
Collect it (or not) however you want to.
The mint has called them circulating coins, not a commemorative issue, and most of the discussions have been shutdown for being political, that's why I only called it a $1 coin.
"Commemorative" and "circulating" are not mutually exclusive.
The coin was authorized under the commemorative coin legislation, and it commemorates the nation's 250th. None of that changes if they enter circulation.
You could make arguments for both.
Using your argument would the 1932 Washington Quarters which were intended to be commemoratives part of the later series which required different Congressional authorization? Would you treat the Bicentennial coinage as part of the Washington quarter series?
I think a serious argument could be made that it is an extension of the presidential coins, separate legislation notwithstanding, in the way I could justify treating 1932 and 1976 quarters as part of the Washington quarter series.
I also think there is some merit to your argument.
I lean toward it being both
If you want to collect one (or more), then do so. Time will tell which set(s) it will belong to. I don't understand the confusion. You either want one, or you don't.
This coin is a circulating commemorative coin like the coins issued during the Bicentennial in 1976.

I don't, but if it is a new type, then I would have to get it.
I think it's a legit question. I'm sure Danscos will have a slot for them somewhere with the golden dollars of all types. golden dollar type set!
I consider it a SSQ item, along side the dual date nickel, the new design dime, quarter, half. Include also the AI dollar coins, the Freedom 250 medal, a July 4th privy mark quarter, if I can find one, anything calling out the 250 aspect.
I figured abbreviated, spelled correctly, or not, it could be figured out, guess I was wrong.
"Type" is never absolute. That's why there are so many variations of type sets. The beauty of type collecting is that you can decide for yourself.
Of course, you can also let PCGS or Whitman decide for you.
Look at classic commenorative halves. They are generally all considered one type for a 20th century type collection, even though there are numerous designs. And the Norse is often included with the commens, even though it's not even a coin. And the aforementioned 1932 Washington quarter was intended as a one year commemorative but is never included in classic commemorates.
And you could say the same about the Bicentennial coins, including the silver ones that were not released for circulation. Everyone takes the modern commemorative series to start in 1982.
You may find this freedom to be liberating or disorienting. I find it liberating.

They fit in the collections of those who collect. For me, it’ll be a hole filler in the presidential dollar album, on a temporary basis.

And what if the PCGS registry puts it in a different place?
There is no single right answer.

I'm putting one in the 250th Anniversary album I'm putting together.
SSQ?
Semisesquicentennial it's easier than trying to remember the spelling 😂
Just to have 1
I believe that, considering you still spelled it wrong
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
In that case, it should be SSC for Semi Sesqui Centennial.

The dollar coins just don't circulate. At all. They likely won't until the paper dollar is phased out. Until then:

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me. . . . . . .
They circulate heavily in Ecuador and Panama.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Your point being? I think it's easily understood that I was alluding to the dollar coin's inability to gain any traction in commerce here in our own country.

And maybe Venezuela soon enough.
My point was clear. You stated that dollar coins do not circulate "at all". I provided a fact that contradicts that. In your context of whether coins sit in a vault or not, it doesn't matter whether they're circulating in Maine or Central America.
Eventually, enough also accumulate in sock drawers and change jars in the US that official inventories are depleted. See also: the 1999 Susan B. Anthony dollar.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
To be fair, this is the "U.S. Coin Forum", not the "World & Ancient Coins Forum" so in the context of where the coins are being used (or not), it could matter to someone.
Of course, as always, YMMV.
Except putting a Sac dollar in my pocket and taking it to Ecuador doesn't mean it's no longer a US coin. By that logic, we'll have to banish @lermish and his chop marked trades to the World Forum
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
No, it doesn't. All I'm saying is that if you're talking about how coins circulate (or not) in the US, it is not necessary to include how they might be used outside the country in the discussion.
It will be used for tips, change, drive thrus, etc.
After the dust settles, I hope Dansco will make a 2026 album that holds the entire mint set. Plus an ASE would be nice. This coin would fit in there well. I don't need holes for all the odd privy stuff though.
I'm sure plenty would like me banished further away than that

Semiquincentennial. Literally “Half of” (semi) “Five Centuries” (quin centennial).
“SQC” would work.
The U. S. mint counts them as being here:

It's SQ semiquincentennial.
A semisesquicentennial would be 75 years.

I recommend starting a special set. The "oddball set" will give the dollar coin that is subject of this thread a home. I have a set going that I call "orphans and miscellaneous." I could just as easily call it my "oddball set." Or better, I could call it my MOO set, MOO being shorthand for Miscellaneous, Orphans and Oddballs. The coins, medals, tokens, etc. in this set are either in a slab or a 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 cardboard holder. I just use a PCGS slab box to house my collection of oddballs, pieces that need some love but really don't fit in anywhere except with other oddballs. The width of the PCGS slab box is perfect for placing 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 holders into. One can get up to 40 pieces in this giant cardboard holder size into the box as each slot nicely accommodates 2 holders, each holder containing an oddball or orphan or miscellaneous piece.

I don't want one but if I did into the MOO collection it would go.

definitely doesn't fall under the presidential dollar coins. it's missing term number and years in office.
For me at least, I’m only interested in it if they just so happens to fit into here

Sorry for the blurry picture, in case you can’t tell, those are one dollar size vintage “wayray” Wayte Raymond Wayray coin filing system coin holders 🌞

Does finding a worthless and irrelevant fact just to dispute a post make you feel important ? Way too much of that on this forum.

I mean, it was a totally innocuous comment to share an interesting fact. I find it quite interesting that US dollar coins are used as a common means of transaction in multiple foreign countries, to the point that these coins get worn down to grades they would never see (naturally) in the US. I’ll bet some readers here didn’t know that.
Not to mention that there’s a tremendous amount of historical importance around world trade, empires, and coins being used as a means of exchange in places distant from their origin. This is another chapter in that book. I’m surprised that anyone interested in numismatics would consider that “worthless and irrelevant”.
But thank you for the rude comment. It was ironic coming from someone with a history of starting entire threads solely to share emotional outbursts regarding their political views. Hope you’re enjoying your time behind bars.

don't let this silly back-and-forth drag you down into a bamming hattrick.
Too late. Hattrick is in jail already. Personally, I was impressed how he didn't bring politics in to this thread!
I am making the popcorn.....
Where is the back-and-forth? Only one post from me . Why do you always try to make an issue out of nothing?
Prison (the bars) isn't banning. Banning is the faceless figure with a shash through it.
I wish you well
I am well aware. @MsMorrisine stated bamming NOT banning which I took to mean bam hammer or jailing....
lingo:
bamming - banning
modulator - moderator
perhaps it's before some of you guys' time
Take it from me who tried using your logic to have a thread to discuss VaultBox years ago.
No matter how hard you try, there will be a few members who cannot control themselves and will turn this in to a political discussion or simply flag it to the Mods who will close it automatically because of the multiple times they extinguished or closed prior threads on the same topic.
Enjoy your Sunday....Monday is fast approaching!
My apologies. Sorry I misunderstood your post.

Enduring Liberty Half Dollar coins with privy mark to the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum (Memorial) in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001,
The privy mark includes the date “9-11-01” encircled by the phrase, “ALWAYS REMEMBER,”
