I usually am strongly biased towards cameos (hence my moniker), but I too like the color of your new acquisition better although both are gorgeous. It’s a wonderful example of when having a duplicate for your set isn’t necessarily redundant.

I just received the coin and it is really really nice. Superior tissue toned color and hard mirrors. I have no problem at all with the grade on the holder.
The new 1881 has beautiful colors that remind me of the sun setting over my fishing lake!
Your T$1 blew me away, as well as your set. Have you ever traced any of them back to a noted provenance like Eliasberg etc?

I’m amazed by the sharpness of the details more than the colors. The color is nice don’t get me wrong but the strike looks incredible. I see why you like these so much now.
Provenance matters to me a LOT. I research to see which great collections my coins came from for sure. For instance , not famous to most but very important to trade dollar collectors is the fact that this coin came from the David Silberman set
You are correct I have never heard of Mr Silberman. Who would be the other provenances that you admire for great Trade Dollars, famous and unfamous but having great T$1's either way?

I recently reviewed the Garrett proof trade dollar examples off of Bowers' old catalog, what is your opinion on that proof Trade Dollar collection and how does it stack up against the providences that you mentioned?
I have not looked lately, but my recollection is the coins were a little bit too original for my taste

I'm sure you mean his incredible proofs but most of his choppers are in the top Registry set. There are a couple of top pop varieties floating around as well, one with me and another with a former member of this board.

Every single one of them. Lol
BC brought a few of those to Baltimore last November and DDR brought some of the choppers.
They are all incredible coins, so nice. Spectacular in a vacuum and even moreso when comparing to the average coin out there.
