Australian Five Cents: Error or Damaged?

I've been hanging on to this one for awhile and am curious enough to check with you- is the smaller one damaged or struck on a different planchet (than the regular five cents next to it)?


I understand it is corroded and thus even if an error dramatically decreases it value. Regardless, I'd like to know if it is worth keeping or best to discard.

    Certainly looks like a wrong planchet to me. Even with the corrosion "discarding" would be rather harsh for the coin.

    The coins are from Bermuda, not Australia as per the title. B)

    My initial reaction would have been "a normal coin that was filed down" but that doesn't explain the thinness.

    "Why it got tossed into a corrosive environment" is a separate quesiton, as "acid damage" does not seem to be a viable explanation for the shrinkage.

    Knowing the weights would help. I suspect is struck on the wrong planchet.

    The weight is 5 grams for the five cents and 2.4 for the smaller coin.

    Per Numista, the 5 cents should weigh 5 grams, and the 10 cents should weigh 2.43 grams.

    Nice knowing it is probably a coin struck on a smaller planchet. It would be cool if I could locate detail to prove it was struck on a struck coin instead of a blank planchet.
    Either way, I am sure the corrosion makes this one not worthy of sending to PCGS for grading.
