WASHINGTON, August 21, 2026 — The United States Mint (Mint) today presented 2,983 special-issue Enduring Liberty Half Dollar coins with privy mark to the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum (Memorial) in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001, and February 26, 1993, terrorist attacks. The privy mark includes the date “9-11-01” encircled by the phrase, “ALWAYS REMEMBER,” a pledge to never forget the Americans whose tragedies and heroism marked September 11, 2001. The coins—struck at the Mint’s West Point facility in upstate New York—were delivered to the Memorial in advance of next month’s remembrance event, marking a quarter-century since the 9/11 attacks and coinciding with the Nation’s 250th anniversary year.

Interesting. Another privy. West Point mint mark Half Dollar. Looks like a mintage 2,983.

I wonder what it takes to obtain one.

Depending on the source, the number of victims of the 911 attacks, not counting the hijackers was 2,976 or 2,977.

It's the 9/11 victims plus those who died in the February 26, 1993 bombing, which adds up to 2,983

Special Team USA privy ASE, 911 memorial privy half dollar, July 4th privy quarter, my collections will all be incomplete. Is there room on the dime for a privy mark? The nickel hasn't gotten much love this year, just the dual date. I personally am hoping for a privy mark Lincoln cent 😆

Bring back the Half Dime and put a privy mark on it.

Another surprise issue from the Mint. 2026 is starting to feel overcooked.

I made a post about it earlier and now it’s even more true

A 2026 coin collection with every item the mint makes this year would be a collection in its own with some actual true rarities

I totally agree here. My instinct was it was little off-putting that they tied the mintage to the deaths re: the collection aspects. But I understand if it's going to be part of some permanent display in the museum.
