Is the old vintage tape now collectable? Will any of the grading services now authenticate and slab it?

It reminds me of the tamper free taping the Post Office does when you send something registered/insured. They tape every corner. The old style mint boxes sometimes had such loose sides, a coin could slip out...it has happened.

Maybe it's different where you post, but at mine they tape every corner, and every seam, then stamp every place along each line where the tape makes a seam with either the paper or itself.
No Lie, when you say registered, you have to say "yes, I mean registered" and then watch as the eyes roll and the kit comes out. They are all afraid of registered mail, because everyone that even touches it has to sign that they did so, and put their a$$ on the line.

If they're doing that, they're doing it wrong. Per USPS Registered Mail rules:
"USPS employees are not permitted to help customers prepare or seal mail to be registered."
So you as the customer have to apply the security tape to every seam? They aways taped it up and stamped it with their postmark stamp.
Yes, the customer is expected to do it. Back in the day, they would sometimes do it, but in recent years they will sell you the tape and have you do it.

Okay so TBH I have not done this for a while, and rules/practices change. The last time I brought an unsealed bubble envelope in for regular shipping and asked for a 3” piece of tape, they tried to sell me a roll. So yeah.
For an upcoming US Mint Official coin release, there's going to be a NEW tape used by the Mint...
Note: This post was made as a parody to fit in with the subject of thread and an upcoming release of an Official US Mint release. There is ZERO, NONE, NADDA, political aspects to this post other than having a little fun w/tape and US Mint packaging.

I'm not surprised in the change - I think that Postal Employees have learned that the more they sell from the counter, they're literally funding their own retirement accounts and health care coverage based upon how fiscally the USPS is these days.

Heavier brown tape? They’ve been using it for about a month now. Got one today taped pretty heavily.

We were poking a little fun at the thread. I mean, c'mon. Is your love of packing tape really worth a thread all its own?

I'm just telling you what the actual rules are and those rules say you are expected to do it, not the post office clerk.

This thread is twisting & turning to who knows where? I’ll throw in another one: is it duck tape or duct tape? The answer? Both are correct 👍!
