I would not be surprised if which ever dealer bought the bargain at GC will have it at their table at the ANA show grinning like the Cheshire cat.

I’m no longer one of the top collectors - just perhaps one of the most experienced. I only dabble in coins anymore. Has been my privilege to own almost every one of the ultra rarities over the years. I made the choice early on that temporary ownership of a lot of different coins was going to be my route as I was never going to be a billionaire who could hold them all long term.

Have you had the joy/privilege of owning a 1913 Liberty nickel yet?

I was thinking it would have sold for much more.

Hey Bruce - Money is just money! But you got to build unbelievable sets along with owning treasurers. Not bad. I can't compete against billionaires but not trying....... Just enjoying collecting. BTW - I am going back to my roots - Right now, I am roll searching for the 2026 Washington Privty quarters. My son thinks I am wasting my time.......

Thank you. For about ten years, it was my privilege to essentially set the market. Through Legend I could buy anything that came on the market and I built fabulous dollar sets and cycled through other spectacular rarities. Over time I have owned:

    Specimen chain cent
    2 1913 Liberty head nickels
    Gem Early dimes and 1894-s
    76-CC 20 cent
    1796 quarters
    Gem 1796 half
    Gem early dollar set
    Gem Gobrecht set
    Gem seated dollar set
    Gem trade dollar set
    Gem 1804 $1
    2 1870-S dollars
    3 1884 & 2 1885 trade dollars
    Gem 1795$10
    Amongst other great things

When crypto and tech took off, it took me out of the market - I’m more of a commodity guy. People made 10-100x investing and the price of coin rarities went up 5x over time while my commodities have struggled to 2x. I recognized pretty quickly that I could no longer compete. The final straw was the gem 1804 $10 that I got outbid on - the same coin I once had a chance to buy for $550k sold for $5.5M and I was underbidder. The market passed me by but I have all the memories and pictures and I wouldn’t trade it for the world

Looking at that list, I think a change of your username might be in order - maybe “Fantastic Coin Nut” ? 😉

Bruce also essentially created the modern market for chopmarked trade dollars. That means a lot to me and a few others.

The amount of our nation’s history that you have held in your hands is staggering! I’ll never come within .000001% of anything like that…but….in college I did flight instruction and one of my students, Kevin Kregel, went on to command the space shuttle four times which I find pretty cool. 😉

Bruce, I think this forum is extremely fortunate to have you post here.

We get to see truly great coins that you previously owned or still own. And your comments and analysis regarding the rare coin market provide an insider’s views and wisdom, that would be hard to top.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, I didn't write the above in the hope that you’ll give me my choice of one of your duplicates. 😉

    Well said!

Your legacy is that you're one of the greatest collectors of all time. The pure quality and rarity you've passed on IMHO might have beat anyone for per coin average coin quality and rarity in history. Certainly in the past 30 to 40 years. Congratulations on being a steward of so many American treasures.

Great stuff here and we are lucky to have heard your thoughts and opinions over the years.

But consider your 1838-O half (I believe you owned the Norweb example) for your shortlist of top achievements- it has rarity, beauty and great history/significance. And people still can't agree on where it was made!

    Agree with @lermish's comment above.

A not insignificant part of my chopmarked Trade Dollar collection comes from Bruce, including some truly outstanding coins, which I am much appreciative of.
