I tried to do a pocket piece once. But as someone who works from home it was kinda pointless so I gave up after a couple weeks.

I carried this for a while, and gave it my grand daughter this year for her birthday.

I guess the real question is why do some folks carry a pocket piece and did it achieve its purpose, i.e. worn down some of the previous cleaning hairlines, got to a F02/P01 grade, good luck, etc
I also used to carry a Sesqui half, it was heavily scratched when I bought it and was nearly flat when I stopped.

Not at this time. But having one not a bad idea. Maybe buy some vg raw barber 50c for that.
My brother and his friends (all in their 60’s) carry silver dollars and eagles as pocket pieces. He tells me that whenever they meet for breakfast or lunch, they all must show their pocket piece. Whoever forgot theirs, the others charge with vagrancy for not carrying “real” money. That guy who forgot his has to pick up the tab. I think that’s pretty cool…. And funny.

That’s a cool tradition. Any other answers to the question: why? I’ve always considered carrying one something my great-grandfather might have done, perhaps for good luck, or to use in a pinch.
No, but if I did, it would probably be a silver Kennedy such as a 1964. I tend to sometimes lose things that I carry in my pocket, so I wouldn’t want it to be something more expensive than that.

I wanted to do that when they came out! I settled for a 2023 Morgan because I couldn’t afford the medal at the time. Glad to see what it might have looked like. Looking forward to pics in VG!

The only pocket piece I ever had was a heavily polished 1796 dollar. I carried it around for years, hoping it would become less harsh, over time.... which it did. However, it never really got to look "natural" so I ended up selling it for a mediocre profit.

I've been carrying the middle Ike on and off since around 2022, and it's my oldest. I've had the proof Peace dollar for about 10 months, and the Hungarian coin for 3 weeks. They've been getting serious action recently since I've been mowing lawns 8 hours per day while I wait to start college. I've even been trying to buy and wear pants with lower pockets to get them to jingle around more. It's interesting how quickly coins can change color once they stop sitting around, when I bought the Hungarian one it was a dim brownish-gray with a big ugly stain:
A few years ago I had a proof Bicentennial Kennedy half that I was working on, but I lost it behind a seat at a restaurant. Now I only carry them when I have zipper pockets.
Anyways, it's fun to have them. Once my boss randomly brought up "big dollar coins" from the 70s and I pulled out the Ike and said, "Like this?" Then he mentioned how he had a few older silver ones, and I pulled out the Peace dollar and he was even more shocked. That was funny.
I collect world proof sets, coins featuring composers, mid-20th century U.S. proof coins, U.S. type coins, and whatever else I want.
