Its happened a ton of times before. Marcus Giles, Dan Uggla, Berroa won rookie of the year and was nothing after that just to name some others. Hes basicvally Joey Gallo as a catcher. He lives and dies off HRs, his average has never been good

Cal has also been injured several times this year too, playing through injuries, I have seen lots of players have down years, even though his offense has struggled this year he is still a top notch defensive catcher. good thing the Mariners genius GM trading away the Mariners star prospect catcher Ford to the Nationals for a poor reliever, one of the many bad moves Dipotto has made.
The .161 BA is disgusting
Let’s go even deeper. His plate discipline earned him 97 walks last season. He stole 14 bases. His fundamentals were solid across the board. He must be playing through an injury and trying to stay relevant if they make the playoffs.
Key word though last year a career year that wasnt going to be repeatable. Other than RBIS and Ks every other number was an outlier. Just look at his other years

He’s no Rake Bauers. That’s for sure.
I'm rooting for him to beat Adam Dunns record!!
now that you said it, i'll say it as well
me too
I noticed the Mariners scored 10 runs so I figured Cal must have done some damage. Nope! 😁

It’s like after he refused to shake Randy’s hand at the WBC he’s been cursed. I remember at the time thinking why leave the guy hanging especially a teammate on the Mariners.

This is funny. I casually checked the box score mid-game to see specifically what Cal was doing. I felt guilty, like someone running towards a terrible disaster just to witness it.
The no handshake was really weird. Dont like each other thats conmen for teammates suck it up for 5 seconds and do the handshake

He's 5-45 in the month of August, 1 for his last 15. .157 for the season. C'mon Cal, you can do it - beat Adam Dunn!
And I realize you gotta be a pretty good player to get the CHANCE to hit for that low of an average (just like really bad pitchers don't pile up a ton of losses) but that list is remarkable:
Adam Dunn - hit 38+ homers seven straight seasons
Joey Gallo* - back-to-back 40-homer seasons in his first two full seasons
Cal Raleigh - 60-homer season, MVP runner-up
Jackie Bradley Jr - OK, he wasn't all that good but he did win a Gold Glove one year and hit 26 homers another
Cody Bellinger - Won an MVP! Of course, people ignore how his performance fell way off in the second half of that year, which continued into 2020 and then the .165 in 2021.
Overall, some pretty good players there. Or at least guys who were pretty good for awhile.
Unreal how bad he's been. Putrid. His head must be completely scrambled.
Brady Anderson was another 1-year wonder & Norm Cash to some extent.
You could probably shut him down for the season & hit a reset button.

So besides Deshaun Watson can we think of anyone else that comes close to being in the upper tier of worst contracts?
Any contract signed by Kirk Cousins? But, this is a baseball thread.
On the bright side Matt Strahm collects baseball cards and since he’s currently unemployed maybe he can join us on the forum where we can talk about what to do with our worthless Matt Strahm baseball cards.
I forgot about him 😂😂😂
Raleigh was/is injured and played through it for awhile and it really created bad habits. He swings at pitches 9 inches higher than the top of the strike zone. He has tons of popups and foul balls. Also, the biggest evidence of him being injured is he absolutely is terrible against the fastball. Can't catch up to heat. It's obvious. He should have been totally shut down about a month ago when this is obvious it's not going to get corrected this season. Also the handshake thing is meaningless. They (Mariners) all were in a group text and agreed no handshakes during WBC. Arozarena is a goofy/flakey dude. Decent player; but always on the verge of a mental mistake on defense or the basepaths.
Is this the first time a player has played through an injury? We might be looking at another unbreakable record.
