1799/8 Bust dollar details

How would you value this coin? https://www.pcgs.com/cert/54786509 At auction recently it did not sell even at at around $900 for hammer plus the bidder premium. "Graffiti" plus cleaning no doubt makes it less desireable.

I'm a bit surprised it didn't sell for $900. It's not too shabby and Bust dollars have been hot lately, even damaged ones.
I suspect the right collectors didn't spot this auction/listing.

I’ve seen much worse looking dollars for $900. There isn’t much downside at that price, if any.

Well it has more than simply graffiti issues. There are numerous rim bumps and a pretty substantial rim cut along with what might be a decent gouge and a couple scratches. The graffiti also is not done well. I don't know what it is worth other than whatever it sold at. I also have not looked up its die marriage for potential rarity.

    Clearly, less than $900.

I don't think it would be too much lower than that. However, $900 + BP is roughly $1100. $900 all-in might be the right number.

I called up the auction company a while after the auction it did not sell at. They were looking for offers. The opening bid was $750; their estimate, double that. I told them I'd pay $725 plus the 22% premium. They got back to me saying that someone earlier that day had offered more for it. I will not miss it.
