Help needed: Frustrating PCGS Submission - 2 Missing Type B Attributions + 2 Details Grades

Waiting three weeks in encapsulation and quality checks just to finally get the grades in… and PCGS decided to attribute only 1 of the 3 Type B Reverse quarters I submitted, despite the fact that I paid for all three to be attributed. Um.. Hello, what about the other two?

On top of that, 2 of the quarters came back Details – Damaged, even though they were pulled directly from original bank-wrapped rolls that I personally reviewed of course before submitting, no sort of details qualities on it...

Very frustrating, especially when you’re spending nearly $500 on grading and attribution fees for a submission like this.
Has anyone dealt with something similar before, and who would be the best person at PCGS to contact about getting this reviewed? Can't get in contact with anyone over the phone and I want this resolved before its shipped to me.

Also looking to see if I can get an explanation on the (2) details coins as the certs don't have anything on them.

it's not impossible to get something reviewed before returning it but it is highly unlikely. call in tomorrow morning very early.

the only mystery damage I can think of is counting wheel damage, however discussions of that on here is like discussing pareidolia viewpoints. "maybe this" "maybe that"

Could be the damage close to the reverse rim at about 8:00.

Maybe, although I always make sure of it prior. This one baffles me..

After looking up the FS-901, all your concerns appear to be legit. The first "damaged" quarter appears funky on the left reverse but damage? Be sure to check the third side. It's the lack of feedback on orders that convinced me to stop using ANY TPG. GL

That’s because counting wheel damage can be very hard to see, even when you have the coin in hand. And in pictures, it’s often impossible.

I have a Rarity submission that PCGS received 5 weeks ago on July 8.

I really hope to get it back before Christmas.

all three of those 1956s are definitely type Bs. Sometimes die wear can make a slight notch at the top of the arrowheads. Even at that, all other identifiers are there.

On the 1962-d’s regarding the details grade, I think it’s because of what looks like an identical scratch on both coins running horizontally across the top of Washington’s hair.

I can’t make out if it’s a die crack or scratch from their photos, but I submitted some Kennedy halves many years ago with a similar issue and they detailed those. Needless to say, I’ve never submitted a Kennedy to them again.

A common die crack, all that it is. Nothing on either examples stood out to me as damage. Below is a straight graded example showing a very similar die crack extending over into the field like the one I submitted.

I agree hard to see. That is why they should net grade them like a scratch or scuff instead of details.

Failure to recognize varieties, _even with detailed photos pointing out the varieties and their respective tells,_is why I gave up on submitting to PCGS after many years. The refusal to recognize varieties (some very well known) in my last 2 submissions were the final straws...

I feel your frustration. The 1956 group looks to me like the first is the best and the third is close to details with the scrap on the back lower bust. I have had similar get machine damage.

I agree with the possibility of counting wheel damage on the 62-D's. You need to view them at a 30-40 degree angle to see what looks like a large eraser scrape over the high spots. A good photograph shows no sign of this damage.

Are you the person doing a die marriage study on 56 type B's? If so, how is it going?

Hopefully you get a cool red PCGS box ++

It appears at least one coin has counting wheel damage.

I am not the one doing the study but whoever is can happily reference those TV's. I just can't understand how they attribute 1 of the 3 even though they were submitted back to back from one another. And agreed it would be cool to get a red PCGS box.

If I recall correctly, the machine wheel mark details grade is based on a series of angled directional hairlines? If so I always ensure this isn't something that is on coins I submit. I find it hard to believe I missed it if that's the case

Any particular spot in the photos that made you conclude that? Once I get them back I can take a look again

They will normally mention the specific type of damage on the insert when you get them back but I agree with the others, counting wheel damage is the most frequent and hardest to spot/detect.

MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

I'm sorry for all the pain; I'm sure that the PCGS graders and attributers do the best they can under the circumstances. Hopefully the concerns will get addressed.
