Odd & Unusual Coins You have Purchased with No Rhyme or Reason
I think most of us would have to plead guilty to purchasing the occasional odd or unusual coin that doesn't fit within the perimeters you usually seek in adding to your growing collection.
For example, you might be a Bust half collector yet you stumble upon a neat looking- in your eyes- Indian cent and end up buying it regardless of your inclination not to.
Here are a couple of coins I purchased within the last week that fit that bill.
Fortunately this side quest is inexpensive. Probably inexcusable, yet really, much of this hobby can fit under that umbrella of judgement.
I'd like to see yours. It'll make me feel better for having purchased these:

An expensive impulse purchase. I like coins that depict mountains but this is outside any particular collection or theme. Had to have it.

What is comical is what one collector deems odd/unusual I consider the core of my collecting hunt.
Whenever I come upon one of these proof Eisenhowers- with (in my mind's eye) incredible toning, I just got to have it! Here is one that arrived a few days ago:

A flea market type fellow that used to set up at the local monthly show came into some coins. I cherry-picked a few decent raw seated coins and large cents for very reasonable prices. This coin for some reason he decided to submit. His asking price was pretty high. After a few months he decided to blow out what was left, including this coin. I had absolutely no use for it, nor any real idea of its value, but I offered half his asking price, which he accepted.

I don’t think the slabbed ones go for much more than raw though. It’s not just coin collectors that buy these. They sell good cleaned too, the galvanic nature of the medallion makes them prone to bad corrosion. The quack medicine collectors don’t mind the cleaned ones.
Also, not sure why, but the selling prices jumped up starting about a year or so ago. I used to be able to get them for $50 or less, now they go for about $150 and the rarer variations or higher quality ones are going for about $250. I stopped buying them once the price crept up to about $100

The Kennedy half has been worked to be about the size of a silver dollar (without losing detail or distortion).
I think these used to be called "Texas halves"

I'm a type collector so a lot of what I buy is somewhat on a whim--I see it, I like it, I buy it. So to that end, this might not be that odd or unusual. I already had (still do) a nicely toned MS64, so this wasn't my first chance to get a 1921 Peace, but when it came across my desk in a consignment, I just fell in love with its originality. It's by no means a coin I was looking for, nor a type that I needed, but I just couldn't pass it up. So I made it mine.

Not a world coin guy, but I like the history of these counter stamped issues and their general connection to early America. I’ve passed on a few really nice examples, so I locked this one in.
I really like the sun/mountain CAR issues as well.
Other passions include golf, Moto Guzzi motorcycles, and Euro motorcycles in general.

I saw this and the auction price wasn’t excessive…..so it said “buy me!” I always think about the time in our nation’s history of what it was like for the people who lived back then, the people who made and touched these coins, whose pockets it traveled around in, and what people thought when they saw their very first coin…..not knowing this small piece of history would become someone’s prized possession several hundred years later
