Well at least the sleeve is authenticated

I just got this beauty back from the authenticator today and was a little disappointed with the service. The authenticity guarantee sticker was affixed under the sleeve lip. The card can easily be removed, and the sleeve can now be used for another card. This is the first time I have ever seen this.

I thought that eBay authenticity was only for you as the purchaser of the original listing… I wasn’t aware that it was considered “secure enough” to be used in subsequent sales. In other words, if I saw a listing on eBay that claimed it previously passed eBay auth and had the sticker, I wouldn’t see that as a positive or a negative - it just means that at one point in time it was what the original seller said it was, but there are ample opportunities for the current seller to mess with it once they got it in hand.

In the situation pab1969 has posted about I'm sure the average unscrupulous seller will re-use the eBay authenticity bags on other cards they hawk at shows or on FB etc...

Good point - even if it shouldn’t mean anything outside of the original transaction, there are unsavory sorts that might try to scam people, and this mislabeling / mis-sticking may make that easier.
Though I will say that the QR Code link is pretty nice, and it shows enough specifics that they’d have to use the same cert number, slab, and card to pull off a scam (assuming a potential buyer bothers to scan the authenticity code).

That point and just the lack of QC before mailing it to me. I bought this card for my collection, so at least the bag will stay out of the wrong hands.

And assuming the buyer even CAN scan the QR code. Many of us do not have cell/smart/i phones.
