Some of us write better than others. Some of us use a desktop or laptop while posting while others use a cellphone. Some of us dictate our posts. Some of use AI to cleanup our posts. Some of us have a lot more time to compose a post while others are multitasking the entire day and don’t have as much time. I guess the point I’m trying to make is we’re all going to have very different posting styles and the quality may vary. Yes, it certainly would be nice if we were able to understand what a poster is trying to say even if it’s not perfect English. This isn’t directed at anyone in particular.

Certified Acceptance Corporation (CAC) is a Far Hills, New Jersey third-party coin certification company started in 2007 by coin dealer John Albanese.

I won’t get into specifics (why or how) but removing a CAC sticker without any residual evidence is quite easy.

I have to be really careful when I clean off dealer sticker goo with the alcohol based Purell that I have left over from COVID and takes sticky stuff off really well. Also nice it is viscous so it is not all over the place like alcohol.

If the coin had a permanent red CAC sticker on the holder, that kinda kills the coin. Meaning that the owner needs to crack and reholder the coin if they want to sell it for PQ money.

Again, how would that differ from detail-grade labels already being used? Both the labels and red stickers would reflect negatively on the coin, with many sellers being inclined to crack the coin out.

Mark, it would likely be welcomed by several large sellers on EBay who crack out details coins anyway and the scarlet letter would probably really kill the price for them to scoop up and crack away, they list with a little photoshopping and boom: raw BU beauties.

Maybe I’m dense, as I don’t see why such stickers would cause sellers to discount coins below what they’d already price them at as detail-grade pieces.

@MFeld the details slab is a bad example of a slab. It was just a random photo that I had. I am talking about a straight graded slab.

Got it - thank you. The thread was an attempt at humor, using a hypothetical that would never happen in the real world.😉

I've seen red stickers from JA, except they are round and have PVC written with a pen. :D

That is the most that he would consider in red.

There is a crossover revenue stream that would likely be negatively impacted if a sticker service is pursued.

Now that CAC is slabbing coins, I'd love to see PCGS start stickering coins. If PCGS feels your NGC or CACG slabbed coin is solid for the grade, they would sticker it and it would then be eligible to be included in the PCGS registry. The start-up costs would be negligible, and it would provide PCGS with a new revenue stream and it would provide the collector with the added reassurance that their NGC or CACC slabbed coin is solid for the grade.

I like this but PCGS is already so backed up with submissions that it would take months to get stickered coins back.
If you dont mind that they sure go for it.

How rare is the variety and would it even be economically viable to submit?

While varieties are an interesting part of collecting and perhaps even the last frontier for collecting certain series, it seems there should still be some financial considerations for submissions so one is not buried.

Considering the condition issues and grade, it doesn't have much of a premium over face value- even in 65 red it's a $20-$25 coin tops. As someone who takes grading submissions at shows, I can tell you this is very common. I would say at least half of the people I interact with at shows can't tell the difference between a problem-free coin and one with ED or cleaning. It's impossible to know the mindset of this submitter, but if I had been helping them at my table I would've advised them not to submit it for the reason I stated. Sometimes people take the advice, sometimes they don't.

Good point. PCGS would likely have to open their registry to such coins, which would reduce crossover business.

    So.....
I used to work at a plastic company that made permanent plastic labels, that are heat stamped to the product. I always thought it would be hilarious if cac got those in green gold, and red. Each slab that failed could then get a permanent red CAC sticker, effectively making that coin worthless in that holder. I do believe that the large grading companies would like the idea, due to the extra volume of reholders, that would ensue. What are your options, and how would this change market dynamics?

P.S. practically this has already happened, with cac's private database of failed cert#'s

What does “practically this has already happened, with cac's private database of failed cert#s.” ?

Many coins (including four and five figure ones) aren’t effectively made worthless by detail-grade labels. And they wouldn’t be if red CAC stickers were used, either.

To me a red sticker identifying a problem is a moot point since a large swath of the CAC only crowd treat any coin without a sticker as a reject already. No need to emphasize it any more…

Was it from this thread or another? I mean, I don't read everything here, but there are some topics that appear to invite trouble more than others.

I do believe that the only safe topic is that of posting pictures of recent purchases. Everything else seems like a open invite to a duel

I think it was likely on the most recent "Non-political Trump Coin" thread which got poofed but I didn't see any alleged out of bounds comment myself.

perhaps it was from the apolitical political thread, but I'll add this: people's PMs aren't private to the mods

Actually, the mods couldn't see PMs. When I got a threatening PM, I had to send screenshot to the mods.

I think it was likely the more political Trump thread that contained a few inflammatory, overtly political posts including several by that poster.

You are also a victim of your own history. If you have been warned and repeat the behavior, you are more likely to be punished.

It's unfortunate, nonetheless. We've lost so many people over the years.

    Lol.

    Yeah...no.

Any bias is minor. They are just trying to keep things civil.

I'm sure we'll see one or two more dollar coin threads. We'll see if people can just ignore them.
