Still sifting through a large estate I purchased and found this. Can somebody help in figuring out what this is above the left wheat stalk? It does not appear to be a residue. Baffled on this one. the coin appears to AU-BU in details. Thanks for the assist.

Possibly glue or a build-up of lacquer.
You could try soaking the coin in Acetone (nail polish remover or similar).
If that doesn't work, it might be water soluble, in which case try soaking in water.
I vote for lacquer. The coin looks like it's been coated.

At one time collectors used to coat their coins with laquer to protect them.
This could be one of those.
I don't know what it is but it's still a great looking 1909!
If its lacquer you might want to leave it so it doesn't oxidize. At least until you get a holder that is air tight.
If your sending it in for grading that's another story.
