Edited to add - Oh I see, the 2nd poster on the thread. Since I don't do error coins, I don't know him and not sure why the OP created this thread to throw kudos his way. Perhaps the OP would elaborate?
I am aware of several dozen coin dealers on the internet, and Mike Byers was not one of them before I saw this thread.
The "most famous" or simply "the best"?

Mike Byers is Number 1 Shenanigans Mint Error Dealer, who's still active.

Lonesome John was #1 Shenanigans Mint Error Dealer of all time who had long since retired & much later RIP.
From talking to LJ over the long distance phone and in person in early 1980's I have always assumed LJ was getting Mint Errors from San Fancisco & Denver & Philly that were both made to order for him or were riddled out mis shaped naturals that were spirited out. This was due to fact that he advertised in print numismatic media in early and mid 1970's seeking errors to purchase. He wanted errors and then the errors found him.
Then #1 for me is Fred Weinberg who has happily retired & is living the dream.
Most of my exotic error coins came from Fred.
I always received great errors from Fred at affordable prices.
Luckily for me I buy & hold so most everything I bought last 47 years I still have.
Yes, Mr Lindy, I buy and sell proof and mint state exotic error coins. Many of these were intentionally struck. The best example is the proof Ike Dollar clover that Heritage Auctions sold for me, realizing $105k.
But I handle far more than that. Exotic modern error coins are just a fraction of what I buy and sell. I deal in rare U.S. type coin mint errors, die trials, patterns, dies, plasters, and galvanos. Additionally I handle unique and rare U.S. coins.

I recall fun error adventures like you selling Lonesome John Shenanigans you then sold to Dr King ? that you've posted about years ago. As a teen kiddo you handled some incredible error treasures abundant in California market. Some things you quickly sold & then spent years trying to re acquire:

You were one of my inspirations to buy & hold from mid 80's onward.
A few items I did sell are the items now I tend to recall & regret.
Never needed the money back or for profit, just foolishly sold, thinking items did not fit in the big picture.

Yes, the story about Lonesome John’s proof Ike clover is well known. I purchased it from him (along with many other mint errors) in his NewBury Park, CA office in the early 70’s. I must have made 20 trips over those years. The first few were when I was just 15 years old and my mom drove me.
Back the Ike clover. So Lonesome John pulls out this proof Ike Dollar struck on 3 off center nickel blanks! A three leaf clover and all off center, with the Ike Portrait in the center. Wild! I paid $3k and drove to Dr A.K. Berry’s office. Dr Berry was assembling a world class collection of Ike Dollar major mint errors. I charged him $5k.
Fast forward 50 years, and another proof Ike Dollar clover ( on three dimes) that I owned realized $105k in Heritage Auctions.
Lonesome John published my first catalog in 1975 and featured my gold Indian Head Cent which you just mentioned in your post.

Unlike Mr. Mint decades ago dealing in baseball cards, the coin hobby seems to value anonymity.
So some of our Big Hitters here...we don't know who they are. Hanse, Bass, Simpson -- some we do.
