Donald Young RIP

I had known Don Young for many years. A real gentleman who was seriously into the Sierra Club. Many people knew him from his monthly full-page advertisements in World Coin News.
Don was mostly a medal dealer and used to attend NYINC, summer ANA, and would always take Amtrak down to the Baltimore show as he lived in Manhattan and didn't own a car. He would visit Germany occasionally on buying trips which always gave him a nice European stock. Occasionally, he had some Latin American.
I hadn't seen him in a while and had wondered what happened to him. It seems he passed away in September 2025 per this article (I'm not sure of the author):

I'm posting this here as I'm sure many knew him and his death was not really announced.
Rest in Peace my friend.

I remember Don from the NYINC. Always had a wide variety of World medals. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I had heard he was ill and sold his inventory. Sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to family and friends.

I always enjoyed stopping at his table at the NY INT and Baltimore shows. He had a nice selection of medals and was quite knowledgeable. We had some great discussions about history... including the Presidential Election of 1948... and medals. I am not sure how old he was but suspect he was over 90. He leaves a numismatic legacy of greatness for how he approached being a dealer and perhaps even a larger legacy for his conservation work through the Sierra Club. He will be missed by all those that knew him.
edited to add- I did not hear about his passing until reading what pruebas posted.

I purchased Don's entire inventory, library and personal collection when his health made it impossible to continue (after his fall on the way to NYINC in 2023). The last couple of years were really hard health wise for Don. It was tough seeing the physical decline while his mind remained extremely sharp until the very end. I'm so glad I got to spend so much time with him and pick his brain on everything medal related. He truly had a phenomenal eye for coins and medals- This was reflected in his personal collections which were exceptional eye appeal wise. Most importantly however, were his achievements outside of numismatics. I loved hearing his stories of his friendships around the world, his career in publishing and his adventures with the Sierra Club.
