RIP, @GDJMSP.

Yes, the Man With Six Names.

Doug (aka “GDJMSP”) was until recently the day-to-day administrator and chief moderator at CoinTalk, where his loss will be greatly felt.

Because he was an expert in older World gold, particularly Netherlands ducats, and I wasn’t sure if his passing had been noted here on the CU forums yet, I thought I’d post this in World Coins. I am confident some of you will remember him. I first “met” him on this site.

In later years he set aside collecting but maintained the daily operation of the CoinTalk site. He was also a past attendee at many FUN shows, though sadly I just narrowly missed the opportunity to meet him in person.

Doug passed unexpectedly in early June, after having had some longterm health issues. He will be missed.

    Thanks for letting us know. Years ago when I started getting back into the hobby I saw his post on CoinTalk - always informative. RIP.

    I will really miss Doug. We had some great times at FUN. He ran the CT forums for many years and built it into one of the best sites ever. He was a great teacher and friend to many.

    I think Doug just plain loved this hobby. I learned much from his many comments over the years on the CT forum. I am only now realizing his extensive efforts behind the scenes to make that place a destination for so many collectors. He moderated fellow collectors with humility and humor and helped shape a platform for multiple generations of collectors to connect. Doug was one of the giants in the world coin arena. RIP.

    RIP Doug - he was an excellent moderator (which is far easier said than done) and an asset to the hobby.
