The "security" is baked into the base price. A $100 package gets the same security as the $50k package.

Of course, you probably have not just had a roof insurance claim denied by Liberty Mutual and had to pay $55k out of pocket (which would have been spent on coins), so are not really sour on insurance companies.

You're not getting it. Maybe I have been unclear.
The USPS charge includes secure transport + insurance. I pay the full amount for transport. I don't pay for insurance. I am not going to make a claim and they would deny it anyway. They get paid for the service they provide (secure transport). I'm not getting anything extra. USPS is not incurring any liability. Yes I acknowledge that their terms want me to buy their insurance and it is a violation not to. If USPS were to try to sue me, they would not be able to because they would not be able to prove any damages.
I shipped more than 130 coins to PCGS 10 days ago with value over 20k. I shipped usps priority with 5k insurance (max I can buy for usps priority). Registered mail is too much trouble for me to shipped. I want to buy label online and dropped the package off in usps rather than get in line and fill out the form there.
Do you guys know that even PCGS don’t used registered mail any more. PCGS use FedEx now.
That actually tells us nothing. If they have private insurance, they don't need to ship registered for insurance purposes. Even if they are self-insured, they may have determined that their claims-adjusted risk is cheaper with FedEx.
You would have to know why they made the choice and see if your profile matches PCGS.

So who knew the speed of USPS registered mail is dependent on informing the clerk of your service option. Clerks in my local PO have never asked and hence, ship Ground Advantage by default as though it's the only option, which takes 2 weeks from here to Newport Beach.
Domestic Registered Mail is only available for Mail Classes:

My experience is that GA or Priority will get you the same result either way. I sent Priority Registered from PHX to CAC (VA) and it can easily take 2 weeks. But they should give you the choice so you can pick the cheaper option. I have had to educate some USPS employees about this as they didn't think you could use GA with Registered but you can.

There is no difference in speed. All registered mail travels the same way: in a locked pouch. You are wasting money if you opt for a more expensive tier. The only reason to choose one over the other is if, for example, flat rate priority is cheaper than ground advantage.

I think I did ship registered to PCGS couple years ago for over 50k.
