the "FrankenWagner" is currently on the auction block
The die-cut and restored FrankenWagner is live on love of the game auctions. currently at $590k. a couple of questions:
what do you guys think about this "restoration" job?
what about CGC labeling it as such?
How much do you think it will go for?
I personally hate it. wish Keith would have kept it as is. at least the background color is significantly different from original wagners so it would not be confused as an original. i have also heard that the wagner die cut was overlayed on top of the donor background so his image is raised over the background. almost 3-d if that makes sense.
i would prefer if we just comment about the card and not Keith. dont want the thread to get political and shut down.

As I said in the other thread I'm against restoration of cards however it's a personal choice if someone wants to add a restored card to their collection
Since sports cards prices have been steadily rising to a more and more silly level I will say it's going to fetch somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million
Since the seller and CGC are being very transparent and up front about what the card is (and is not), I have no problem with this card being auctioned off as a novelty item.
Like most on this board, I take issue with sellers who try to pass off an altered card as legitimate and make a profit. It then crosses an ethical line for me.
What a weird looking card!!!

I don't have an issue with it. I'm not in favor of restoring sportscards in general but, for rare cases like this it makes sense. The original card was hacked up. The restoration maintains the partial authentic Wagner card and marries it up with another original T206 to produce a high grade looking appearance. I don't put it in the same category as cutting up a rare bat to glue to insert cards to sell more product. I don't think they ruined the original Wagner because they retained what was left of it.
Hmmm...the only issue i have if someone takes a real beat up raggedy Wagner card and puzzle cuts it into two pieces then restores both pieces to fully restored looking Wagner cards thus creating two Wagners from one... Oh Lordy I better go take my medicine

That is a completely different set of circumstances, and one of the most detrimental things in the hobby
