I have always loved the Ecuador dollar story, even if I was mocked for mentioning it earlier in the thread by my frenemy.

All 3 of your wife's coins have seen more circulation than probably any such coin in the US.

Can we interest them in Kennedy halves? Those must be taking up valuable space in the vaults.

I told her to grab as many circulated dollars as she could bring back. Hopefully. They have the Cheerios reverse and the prez buck has the elongated ray! Will update next week

That is actually a good idea, getting rid of a few hundred million Kennedys from the vaults. However, the people might wonder why the half dollar is larger than the dollar.

Good point. I wonder if they struggle with why the dime is smaller than a nickel?

I was about to say that Ecuador issues it's own coins independent of any constraints linked to US coin dimensions. I checked the Google first and the results were very interesting.

Since dollarization in 2000, Ecuador does issue its own coins, and they mirror US coins in size (not necessarily composition). Apparently US coins of various denominations circulate alongside them.

The reason given for Ecuador issuing its own coins is that US coins don't have numbers to represent the denominations and Ecuadorans found that confusing. I'm sure seignorage also played a role.

Apparently supplies of US coins are shipped down every few months. (Presumably mostly dollar coins).
