This Trade dollar was sent in the slab to review for a crossover to another service which said that they would call it "tooled" as they saw evidence of that were they to slab it. Anyone see that?

Based on the posted pictures, I would have guessed that it failed to cross due to blurryness.

Those are just as unhelpful. If we're supposed to find minor changes to the design due to tooling, we need something larger and clearer to be able to see the intricacies of the design.
Depending upon the specific coin, “tooling” can also signify other means of surface alteration that could be more or less offensive than re-engraving a portion of the design.

I have a 78 CC that I bought a long time ago, the "tooling" appears to be where someone used a pin or other sharp object to try to remove some surface gunk. It is a descriptor that covers considerable territory imo
