managed to score 9 silver this morning. not sure the best place to sell them

No matter where in the world any of us are, on the day after release, when something sells out, and a HHL is in place, you can only buy one until noon Eastern time. At 12:01 EDT today, there were no silvers available for purchase, so no one could have bought any, no matter time it was wherever they happened to be in the universe.

Agree with 1st sentence above even at 12:01 today, only 1. Second sentence untrue, and I am 100% certain because I was able to cart 1 at 12:01. The HHL wasn't lifted at that time and it only allowed 1. Sad to say that upon hitting checkout & checking the "I agree" box, no dice. Already gone! Not that any of this really matters.

Silver? Today? I thought they went Unavailable at 7:30:02 a.m. this morning, and never came back. You can't cart anything that isn't already in the cart if Add to Bag isn't live.

    Now we're accusing someone else...???

My apologies, mistakenly said 12:01 when in fact it was 7:31am EST. In case you need proof, this was this morning.

No need. We know they were available at 7:30

    Prove it, please.

    Why would he lie?

Because he just throws posts up for a reaction. If he really got any, let alone 9, he'd know what to do with them without asking. Not to mention, no one could have possibly gotten more than one this morning in the 3 seconds they were available and the HHL was still in place.

I know you believe in the power of absolutely anything being possible, but when did you become so gullible?

Depending on his time zone, "morning" could have been after the HHL was lifted.

I don't think it's gullible to believe him until I have reason not to. It is possible that he's having us on. But it's a rather pointless joke, if it is.

Doesn’t really matter what time zone you live in. They all get released at the same time and the limit is lifted much later.

True, but I didn't know if any are released later. It's rare but not unheard of. He also didn't say he bought them directly from the Mint.

But he's not sime random troll who popped in to get a reaction. I still prefer to offer him grace, until it's proven to be misplaced.

    Fine. But, again, gullible.

Things are sometimes released after 7:30 a.m., but I don't think I have ever seen anything released more than once in a single day. Have you? Come to think of it, maybe one of the ASE privies where they didn't release the entire mintage at noon, and then released some later in the day. But never anything where the entire release sold out, and then stragglers went up more than once on a subsequent day.

In any event, if there was a second release today, there would have been multiple posts about it. Not a single post from @MsMorrisine announcing nonchalantly that he picked up 9, and needs advice on where to unload them.

Admit it, you somehow got played by something that was so obvious that it really wasn't worth a reaction until @Rc5280 gave it one.

Not sure why this now warrants a full blown discussion, or why you are so sensitive about falling for it, but I thought my "🤣🤣🤣" said it all.

No one got 9 today. And anyone who got 9 yesterday with a bot likely accounted for the few that found their way to the website this morning.

With all humility, I nailed it.

Yes, trouble maker. I am 1,000,000% sure he is mistaken, and he did not add a silver Liberty Bell medal to his cart today after 12:00 noon. 1,000,000%.

Edit: I didn't see @Capgun's update when I posted this. But, to you, never an acknowledgement when I am right, but always a lot of finger wagging when there is even the slightly improbable possibility that I am wrong.

Not accusing anyone of "lying," so calm down. Just of being mistaken, as here, or teasing the thread, as in the other post. You seem to be on edge now because, in your rush to defend someone who really didn't need defending, you fell into a trap without seeing it.

Yes. You. You debating whether someone who made an innocuous comment actually picked up 9 silver Liberty Bell medals between yesterday and today, and can't figure out what to do with them.

You. You are the one debating. Because there is no actual debate. Unless the medals were picked up on Pure or eBay, or by running a buyers club.

First impressions of the 1/2 oz Liberty Bell Gold Coin: Great coin, subpar packaging!

Finally decided to open up my 1/2 oz Freedom Ringing Gold Liberty Bell.

At a cost of over $10,000, I honestly expected a much higher standard of packaging. I have received nicer-looking amenity kits on commercial flights! The outside of the box was covered in loose gold flakes—presumably from the ink used for printing.

Inside, the included letter was disappointingly unsigned by Mint Director Paul Hollis. The package did include a nice pamphlet covering the history of the Liberty Bell, the coin’s production, specifications, and a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). It also notes to "Check the Time at Independence Hall on the reverse of the coin for a special 250 surprise!"

My biggest concern is that the coin itself was not secure. It was literally sliding around loose inside its plastic capsule—which is completely unacceptable for a $10,000 numismatic piece.

As for the "250 surprise" on the clock: the hands seem to indicate 2:50. Given the fireworks in the background, I assume it is 2:50 AM. However, the execution falls short. The hour hand looks slightly broken; mathematically, if the time is 2:50, that hand should be positioned much closer to the 3 o'clock mark than it is.

Edited to add - Pics were taking with phone camera - I know these are probably not the quality pics most want...

Anyone else notice these packaging and design flaws on theirs?

    Thanks for the great post!

Unbelievable re the issues raised considering the cost.

The mint commented about the process used to do the windows. How does that detail look in hand?

    Thank u!

They simply overpriced the premium. At most, it should have been comparable to current V75 privy pricing, since that is probably the best benchmark.

That said, I genuinely hate this new U.S. Mint policy of moving into the flipper space. Part of that is selfish, of course if the Mint captures the resale premium itself, there is less opportunity for collectors and resellers to do so. I am not going to deny that.

But the more fundamental problem is that it dilutes the brand. There is a certain purity when a company produces a product, earns a fair profit, and then allows a secondary market to develop naturally if demand exceeds supply. When the original issuer deliberately creates the scarcity and then directly capitalizes on that same scarcity, the entire process starts to feel artificial and tainted. Imagine the NYK charging 50k a seat for the NBA Finals tickets, or Taylor Swift initially charging 5k a ticket? People would take to the streets. And somehow the US Gov't. is doing this???

I am not looking back at the old system through rose-colored glasses, but this new approach genuinely feels like a new low.

Hard to say they overpriced the premium when the silvers all sold out - and are selling for 4x to 8x the issue price - and the gold also sold out. Seems like they got it just about right on the gold, it struggled but eventually sold out, and they were too cheap on the silver.

To be fair, we all should have known something would end up out of line when they were offering 3 different things, at 3 very different price points, and the exact same hyper low mintage. They never tried that before.

Silver is clearly below market, although I still don't understand it. And, I still think the jury is out, because the bids seem to be mostly dealer bids. I get they are the experts and I am not, and I still don't get people willing to pay what dealers will be asking for them once they are slabbed.

As for the gold, TBD. Dealers weren't interested yesterday. Today they are. Maybe based on how silver is doing. Will still be interesting to see whether the gold can hold.

While everyone is mesmerized by 2,026, people are also forgetting that these are really 3 of the same thing. So it's 6,078 Liberty Bells. Not 2,026.

And 4,052 of them are even more VERY expensive than the others. I could also see people ignoring these when the Big Boys start pushing them. But I've been wrong so far, especially about the silver, so I'm not cashing out my 401(k) to bet on anything now.

Dealers weren't interested in paying a premium yesterday. They might be okay with buying them from the Mint.

I'm not a believer in pretty much anything the Mint makes in the long run. And, as I've been saying, I could envision both bull and bear scenarios here which is why I've made no call on the gold. I expected the silver to sell out, but the $5000 prices don't seem sustainable to me, but I've been wrong before.

But it is hard to call these a failure for the Mint. At this point, they've sold 5600 out of 6000 coins, despite the huge premium.

its short term success if success is measured by sellout. However, it's a damaging product to them long term. Silver will always retain a premium, Id guess it settles in the 1800-2500 range, but gold will most definitely plummet long term. Its impossible for me to believe they will have 2x demand than the 75 privy which i believe are at 10k

Most collectors at a minimum entertain selling their purchase at some point. Even if they dont, they definetly want the market to be there in case they do. When they see the 1 ounce going for 5-10k below what they paid...........thats a very unhappy customer. US Mint is based on repeat customers.. hence my assertion that this was a big miss for the mint.

    Assumes facts not in evidence.

Almost everything the Mint makes drops in value. Has that hurt them? Maybe. There are fewer buyers of proof eagles and annual sets. But that could be demographic changes as well.

If you buy a $20k gold coin that ends up being a $10k gold coin, you probably won't buy another. But we also don't know that there will ever be another that they are trying to sell or who the buyers are.

It's not an issue I had much interest in. I don't have much faith in its long term value. But I still think it's hard to argue that it was a failure of they sold even half of the mintage.

Did the FH privy hurt them?

Did the Omega gold cents hurt them?

I think it's important to separate our feelings from the assessment. They are all gimmicks. The gimmicks work. Hard to call it a failure even if we don't like it.

You all still think of these elite mint products with the same perspective as coin collectors or dealers. You need to think of these as luxury gift products like Gucci or Prada handbags where the price is irrelevant and the items are not bought as investments or because anyone expects them to hold value.

Thanks for the additional pics, @HoneyMarket. Total bummer on that gold 'shank'.

Any pics of the obverse? I'd like to see how tall the rim edge is compared to the reverse, if possible.

Your pics reveal that yes, the rim is tall enough that it protects the inner devices while inside the capsule and sliding around.
Still not cool that they did this careless 'encapsulation'.
However!, the edge rim looks a bit inconsistent, or taller than other areas? Sort of like a "finned", or overly "squished" coin? Anyway...

I have some skin in the game, and I'd also like to have the nicest possible example, if so lucky. TBD....

you saw 1,067 ATS? If that's true, they are reviewing these for bot footprints and mass cancelling. Only problem is, the bots just buy again the next day because their bot protection is so amateur.

Can you walk me through finding the ATS, my old page source method no longer working. Thanks, and if you know, how many golds available?

    575 1/2 0z
    680 1 oz

These will likely sit for months as these numbers don't even reflect all the returns they are going to get of the 1/2 oz that shipped before people could cancel.

That would be crazy. My refresh hung for a few seconds -maybe 10s -then nothing available.

I saw the silver bell open this morning, added to cart, then it was unavailable. The mint removed it from my cart when i tried to check-out.

The bots spam checkout to block the ability to check out manually. Plenty of people including myself can get it into the cart, the problem is the millions of simultaneous bot sessions make it so that you can't actually check out

Not saying that isn’t true but it seems odd if that many were available and I was able to click and to bag but then my cart immediately showed empty.

    A. I did not say that. And the idea of "luxury good" is not a counterargument to anything I said.

    B. Given the number of gold now available, it didn't work.

It’s even easier for the bots when the HHL is removed.

you saw 1,067 ATS? If that's true, they are reviewing these for bot footprints and mass cancelling. Only problem is, the bots just buy again the next day because their bot protection is so amateur.

And yesterday morning ATS was 1,389

    From today:

It seems odd that the Mint canceled more than half the original sales. Now, they could have spent some time trying to root out the bot buyers. But that means we're going to have another 1000 available Monday. Lol

They might consider holding an auction. I don't think the bots would play.

If it was true - 1,067 available this morning (please lets have another confirmation of this); then the USM probably should cancel the new BOT orders and put them on a strict 1 HHL again.

Maybe I just misunderstand how the bot game has gotten so out of hand lately but it seems in the past if 100 of something came available at 6:30 in the morning you at least had a shot. Over half the mintage coming back available scooped up in seconds when there was no waiting room whatsoever is the part that seems fishy.

GOLD ATS has surged - especially the 1/2 oz.
Suspect that any orders shipped will have a high percentage of returns as well.
USM has egg on their face with this one.

With every successive round, the bots get a majority of their orders cancelled but a portion squeaks through. It is no skin off their back to just run the scripts every morning until there is nothing left, especially with a relatively low cost item like this.

The problem is that this release attracted cook groups that have historically not been involved. The same people that take 90% of pokemon stock every release are taking almost 100% of this.

The 1/2 oz pics by one forum member are helpful too - the USM could have done a better job with the rims; seems like the strike produced uneven rims.
Instead of a letter of thanks for buying the coin - they should have included a free 4 pc Gold Proof set along with the 1/2 oz Bell!!

Did anyone on this forum actually get ine of the SILVERS? Seems odd, but I haven't seen anyone come forward with a confirmed order.

Yes, I understand that. My point was mostly the auction. The profit is too high for the bots not to play. I have nothing against bots, but the Mint does. So if they want to solve the problem, move to an auction to eliminate the flip. Or not.

The have to improve their protections against BOTS.......I would hate it but a CAPTCHA at place order would probably do it.

BOTS can even defeat CAPTCHA and reCAPTCHA; these wont be foolproof either.
The USM will need to go to a lottery eventually. We have discussed many times. Enter the lottery to get picked. Check to make sure only one entry per account/HH/address/cc - all the checks you need to make sure only 1 entry.
    Youll always battle F&F.

Forget this forum. As far as I know, none of the people in the coin buying groups that generally secure thousands of coins every release even got one. Again, this release attracted the cook groups that have never historically participated in mint drops. It's a tremendously ominous sign for the future if they are allowed to actually get them in hand,

If Walmart can't figure it out for Pokemon, there is no way in hell the mint stands a chance.
