the silver was available for about 5 seconds and I still couldn't get one even though it was in my cart from yesterday

You CANT cancel an order in PROCESSING STAGE.

BACKORDER status can be cancelled. Orders PROCESSING cannot.

There are ebay seller protections that don't even exist for returns to the Mint. That "age old advice" is nonsense. You could just as easily say you should never buy a coin with money you wouldn't want to burn because of the non-zero risk of total loss.

You think you could win a fight on eBay against a buyer who is trying to fleece you for 10 grand?

You have more experience here than me so I’ll defer to you then. But all the stories I’ve heard are that sellers are the ones who get screwed on eBay. Don’t hear many stories of buyers getting shafted. Still, I wouldn’t sell a $10k item on eBay. Glad it works for you though.

Things are going to cool in price over the next few years. for now, we have FOMO. But flippers will get stuck with something few want to own despite low mintage. Average owners will need money and won't find buyers at inflated prices. Would it be fun to own. Maybe a little. But the cost vs value is too large of a spread. But if you got it, enjoy it!

eBay’s research tool shows listings that have been paid and shows you the best offer price that was actually accepted. Fees aren’t 10% on an item like this, as has already been pointed out.

The only time you can't cancel an order in processing stage is if it has already moved to preparing for shipping in their backend but still shows processing for you. That is a very small fraction of cases and mainly applies to overnight shipping selection.

The USM uses a third party to ship their items - customer service indicates they dont know in what stage the shipper is in (pick/pack, etc) so therefore they cannot cancel the oprder in processing stage - you must wait for shipment and return items after receipt.

Processing doesn't necessarily mean that it's in the hands of the shipper. 2 of us have already agreed that they won't cancel it if it's in the fulfillment stage. But processing is not synonymous with fulfillment.

It really isn't a good look for you to deny all the evidence, including someone who posted a cancelation of this very item.

Why are the dollar amounts different?

Because the shipping charge falls off a day or so after they cancel the product.

I know there has been some discussion of this on the forum already, but as someone who is well under 50 - it is precisely this type of maniacal, dogmatic dedication to one's own delusions that turns a lot of younger people away from coin collecting .

When some old guy is ranting about how he is right and everyone else is wrong about the intrinsic value of a coin issue (or in this case an obviously insane take on how the mint order process works), it helps play a role in making collecting quite unappealing.

And I've experienced the same thing as you many times, not being able to cancel.

However I've also had them let me cancel, so clearly it is possible, if you get the rights phone representative, or the stars align or whatever.

long time USM customer. 40+ yrs. never had an issue cancelling an order than still said processing. did it this morning no issue. whomever started this "you can't cancel an order that is PROCESSING" is just click baiting. you have to call the 1-800 number patiently wait and speak with a representative. Not some "nice one or sympathetic one".

Have your order number ready all your information and ask to cancel the order.

Be prepared for them and they will do their job. Don't understand why anyone would think differently.
