My summer FUN 2026 report

ElmerFusterpuckElmerFusterpuck Posts: 4,899 ✭✭✭✭✭

This was my first time attending the summer show. I gotta say it's worth a return visit. I heard from many sources that this is becoming the prime summer show, possibly eclipsing Baltimore. Time will tell, but I think it's a possibility.

As for the show and being in Florida, I had a blast. Me and my wife made it a vacation as usual. Stayed at the Rosen Centre, which made getting to the show super easy. I never had to leave the premises and got to avoid the Florida humidity. We did take advantage of their super nice pool too.

I had no hard agenda at the show except to consign some more coins to GreatCollections and to find some nice toners or coins for my registry sets. I can say I succeeded there. Below is a collage of what I got:

1844-O 50c doubled date, PCGS AU-55 with green CAC. Turns out I got a condition census coin, pop 4, only 2 higher.
1852-O 50c, PCGS AU-55, never been to CAC but think it would score. An upgrade to my so-so XF-40.
1876-S Trade $1, PCGS AU-58+ with green CAC. This coin grabbed me with the unusual but attractive toning.
1880-S Morgan $1, PCGS MS-66. Got this from one of my Instagram friends, a YN who seems to find lots of good stuff. The textile toning is really cool.
1881-S Morgan $1, PCGS MS-66 with green CAC. The color and liquid luster got me. Outstanding in hand!
1881-S Morgan $1, PCGS MS-65 with green CAC. This replaces the other 11:00 spot on my coin clock. Vivid arc plus bowl luster.
1978-S Ike $1, PCGS PF-67 DCAM. I didn't need this coin. But the gold color got me. Didn't pay a fortune.

And now a summary: I consider my first summer FUN show a major success. I found coins I really wanted for my collection. I think the 1844-O is the highlight coin. I knew about its existence, seen a few circulated examples and thought it was a cool variety. When this was shown to me, something inside said don't let this one get away. It's the most expensive coin I've purchased so for, but I think I did well, especially after I looked up its scarcity. I felt the same with the 1852-O upgrade. Most of this date are ugly pieces. The other coins just fit with my toned coin obsession.

The show was well attended, with the heaviest traffic on Thursday. It was less crazy than the January 2026 show, most likely due to the drop in bullion prices. A handful of dealers were acting like silver was still over $100 an ounce, so easy avoidance. Most dealers did say the show was good, some said great.

Saw tons of newer PCI slabbed toned Morgans with that same toning (deep orange/brown with some blue) over many dates. I had people ask me about those and I warned them to stay far away from them.

Lots of YN's on the floor. Also saw quite a few dealers really being kind and helping them out. This is good for the hobby.

OK, one more coin image. This is the reverse of the 11:00 1881-S shot from another angle. It's full DMPL with frost. Till the next report.

Looks like you had a great show. I saw the 1876-S Trade Dollar when NFC had it. I was going to look at it at the ANA if Liz still had it then.

Thanks for your report; nice pickups! Also stayed at the Rosen Centre (2nd time). Can’t go wrong here - they do everything well + it’s “reasonably priced” for being in close proximity to the OCCC.

The 44-O and the 52-O….what great coins and a terrific one two punch to have acquired at a show. Such tough coin to find and especially so this nice. I’m envious! Big congrats!

Those 3 toned Morgan's really are eye catcher's. I like the almost complete "Gold" one the best of the 3.
