BEGIN Historic Route 66 here, across the street from the Art Institute, Chicago.
However, there's a new 'start' sign on the Navy Pier - "The Road Starts Here".
And it ends here on the Santa Monica Pier, CA

You can start in California and END one block from the BEGIN sign, the choice is yours, the KICKS the same.

The iconic Blue Whale has had a major grounds update. New visitor center & parking lot. There was just gravel & a shack of a store, kiddie seats and benches...
new landscaping and grass.

The Route itself has many alignments. We tried to drive on all 1926-1930 segments when available.
They're still out there.
South of Springfield, IL. Note the brick road, concrete curbing and asphalt turnoff.

Tulsa's Cyrus Avery Bridge. Mr. Avery introduced Route 66 in legislation. The road was to be called Route 60 but there was objection further East, so Mr. Avery randomly picked Route 66.
