Hissed off a little bit at myself. I really liked the D-backs late last night as a dog, but just couldn't pull the trigger on it. They easily blew-out the Dodgers. What hisses me even more is the game was tied 3-3, and I could have jumped on it live for nice odds, and didn't do that either.
I've mentioned this before, that Chip Reese stated MLB was the only sports betting game he ever beat. I feel like he pointed to some mountains and said there's gold up there, I just gotta find it. Feels like I'm getting closer as my MLB handicapping is better than it used to be. Just need to keep. working on it.
Haven't played anything yet, but I like the Phillies ML a little bit in the 6:10 game.
Also like England in the soccer game today at 5:00. Probably play my man Harry Kane in an anytime scorer prop. He hasn't let me down yet.
I looked at that game but I wanted the Dodgers, I thought Ohtanhi was pitching
I read pre game predictions and it was all about Ohtanhi and his pitching
Glad I stayed away I would have got smoked
Of course the bankroll at the book tells ya the balance on the bets you make. I don't keep track of the balance on games I was seriously thinking of betting, but decided to abstain. I must admit, just off the cuff, that I think I'm actually way up in the balance of passing on those games, rather than betting them. That being said, it still feels like chit when I see a nice dog i was gonna play, but decided against it, and it wins easily.

Galaxy… I had that bet where 6 top tier golfers just had to make the cut and Scottie was the worst. I think Xander didnt make the cut also. Then after round 1 I made another bet… Rory has to finish top 5 and Gotterup and Fitzpatrick top 20. So now I’m sure at least one of those guys will crater. 😩
you're in very good shape with Gotterup & Fitzpatrick
Rory, the moment i praised him, decided to bust out of the starting block and go +2 in his first 6 holes today. but i certainly wouldn't count him out.

Was about to punch in the Phillies ML, but saw the Tigers getting a ton of late money. So I'm gonna pass, and follow it live and maybe pop it around the third or fourth inning if the game is even.
I've been tuning on and off to the England game. I just saw Norway had two goals, but now one?

Have ten, count 'em 10, profit boosts waiting for me. Below is one of them. I feel like that song, "Mr Brownstone", he won't leave me alone. I guess maybe the book ain't happy that I've got some of his money. LOL
Well I gotta play something, the odds nicely in my favor. I saw Galaxy and Perk made some comments about this match. I'll see who they like and piggyback.
OT - "National Guard helicopters airlift 200+ stranded kids from camp amid rising floodwaters"
A shout-out to Darin's Missouri. Our society often puts too much emphasis on admiring sports stars, music stars, Hollywood stars, etc, and I'm sometimes guilty of that myself. But the National Guard that just saved the lives of over 200 kids in Missouri who were in danger of drowning from floods, those like the National Guard are the real heroes of society. 👍
You guys seemed very high on Holloway. So I figured what the yell, for some late night action, I'd tickle it. The only thing I'm not sure of now, is to which one of you should I send the obligatory 10% finder's fee? 😉

I don’t think my issue is that I lack balls. I think it’s that I don’t see the angles that you guys say you see. It all seems so random to me.
If I was going to do it I would find the sport where the outcomes match the predictions most often. Instead of flagging in I would only flag out. Games with storylines - I stay away. I want boring. And then I would do it at large amounts of small bets. Nibble around the edge of the uncertainty.
I’m not presenting myself as an expert in sports betting. The opposite. I prefer stocks where I can peel money off a stock like GE slow and steady day after day. Note. I don’t day trade either. Not anymore.
I will take a look and see if any of these sports books have APIs I can use for betting. If they do I will give it a try.

I prefer stocks as well, and enjoy a very nice portfolio. I can't recall precisely the year, but a long time ago, I recall the mods here didn't want "talk" regarding stocks. Simply because it's not their business. Besides there are numerous forums out there on stock market trading.
Completely agree with ya about day trading. Perhaps many folks out there, since most brokerage firms don't charge a fee for the trades, believe that it's basically a 50/50 proposition. Long story short, that isn't correct. You probably already know this, but there is a "hidden" fee with each trade known as the bid-ask. That bid-ask differential will eat alive a prolific day trader in the long run. Stocks are great and it's no big secret, the key to success is owning solid stocks and hold them for the long term. Collect the dividends, and ignore the sometimes crazy swings of the stock market. History has proven that in the long run, stocks go up.
Of course as we all know, collecting cards and coins are great hobbies, and I've been doing both since the first grade. Even as a kid, particularly with coins, I understood some sort of investment value. Frankly though, I could not in my wildest dreams back then, have envisioned the amazing value of some vintage cards today. History has proven cards and coins to be great investments as well.
As far as sports betting, which is the thread topic, I agree with your basic premise. I've made my position on sports betting quite clear over many posts, and don't feel like regurgitating it. In a nutshell, my belief before the advent of computers, was sports betting could not be beat. And refrained from it for decades knowing it was fool's folly to pursue it. However a few years ago, I began to read some internet posts, mostly on Reddit, that seemed credible, about some getting barred from sports betting websites because they were beating them. So I decided to check it out for the yell of it.
To my astonishment, I almost couldn't believe the number of wagering possibilities that are offered. Including live betting, it must be millions each day. It's still hard to believe. So I decided to try it on paper for a year, and see what happens. Wound up with a small profit over the course of a year on paper.
So I then decided to deposit $100 on a website and see what happens. One thing I failed to factor in on my paper bets, are the profit boosts. My paper bets didn't include any of that. My balance now from the $100 is a bit north of $400, and I would guess around half of the profit is because of the profit boosts.
All that being said to wrap up this post, I don't see anyone in this thread proclaiming they can definitively beat sports betting. Yes, I'm up some money now, but I'm fully aware that I'm always one all-in bet away from losing the entire bankroll, including the $100. I think I might possibly make money at it long term because I've always been very good at math. Today's sports betting game, in my viewpoint, to possibly beat it, isn't about picking winners or losers. Although picking winners certainly helps. It's about possibly gaining an edge over the computer on each bet, which is exactly what I try to do. If I wind-up doing it fine, if not, that's fine to, and it cost me 100 bucks to give it a try.
BTW - I disagree with Perk on his basic comment about angles. In my viewpoint, angles are very important, such as finding out about a player injury, weather conditions, etc, etc. But only if someone is capable of converting that info into math as to how that could affect the possible outcome of a game. Not easy to do, and perhaps it's not realistically possible. But that's been my basic strategy, and so far it's been working. Whether or not it works in the long run, we shall see.
"I will take a look and see if any of these sports books have APIs I can use for betting. If they do I will give it a try."
Would like to hear more about this if you find out anything.
Not sure exactly what that is, but I'm guessing maybe it's similar to arbitrage? I've looked into that. And wasn't the least bit surprised that many have already beaten me to the idea. Some have developed sophisticated computer programs, which I don't possess the intelligence or the will to do. From my understanding basically, the millisecond the books publish the lines, their computer program factors in all that info at multiple websites, perhaps from around the world, looks for positive money situations regardless of the game outcomes, and pounds on it. The edge could be fractional, but it's an edge and it's guaranteed money.
Perhaps these are some or most of those who as mentioned, bookies have barred. Maybe similar to poker websites banning computer bots from their websites. In a 6 player game, if three computer bots know each other's hole cards, it is impossible for even the best player in the world to make money at that table, unless they get lucky. The top poker pros in the world aren't depending on luck to win in the long run.
Something I do understand about "angles" which I just experienced.
It was going into the top of the 8th inning in the Pirates game, and the game was over. The Pirates at home, had it easily won 14-2. The O/U was 18.5 when the thought, the angle so to speak, popped into my head that the Brewers on a Sunday before the All-Star break, having lost the game, would just want to get this over with, get the yell out of the ballpark, out of Pittsburgh, and go home. The Pirates of course wouldn't be batting in the 9th. So the under at first glance looked like a license to print money.
Long story short, I decided to refrain from doing anything, and glad I did. The Brewers scored 3 meaningless runs in the top of the 8th, which would have destroyed my under bet.
So while I disagree with dismissing all angles carte blanche, I would agree and do use them if I think the math is there. The under was very tempting, but I just couldn't see the math there, one way or the other being in my favor, and dismissed any bet. I saw it as a coin flip, and I've stated this a number of times before. Coin flips against the bookie's juice, sooner or later results in bankroll destruction, and it's usually sooner. I refuse to engage in that.
Well i easily hit the Pirates game. Bankroll goes to a record high. Then the Dodgers at home take a 3-0 lead, and I'm on top of the world. Everything coming up roses.
So what happens, the Dodgers quit like dogs. And the WNBA wager is one of the worst I've ever made. Not the amount of money, it wasn't much, but the score. A total catastrophe.
I'm glad the All-Star break is coming up after this horrible night.
I bet against Caitlin tonight. She was coming off an injury, figuring she might not be 100%. I was right about that. She had a subpar 12 points. However the rest of the team rallied around her beyond belief, and blew-out a team by 34 points, which was tied for best record in the league. That "angle" certainly didn't work. I guess I should have listened to Perkdog.
Comments
The game was in the first inning when I realized Ohtani wasn’t pitching. And Arizona’s starter was having a great year so I put a bet on them.

I’ve got Twins ML today and later will probably bet on Dodgers.

I wanted to take Norway but I'm in Newport Rhode Island and I can't use my DK app here

Well, badly mucked up a nice Phillies bet with a boost, should have just punched the dam thing in two hours ago.

I got it all in tied 2-2 with the middle, late innings coming up. In other words when we’re talking KC…. Cha Ching!

I had a good freebie day. I got 20 bonus dollars added to my account and 3 free $5 bets… two of which I won on the Padres and lost one on Cardinals.
I’m done betting on golf… just too many players in the tournaments to try to predict who is going to play well and who is going to suck
Nice work fellas!!!
Sports betting - tough way to make a living.
Lesson learned...I think? 🤔
