In my opinion this coin is PL.
I will be sending it in when I use my 8 vouchers.
I figured I would post it raw and update it when it comes back.

Nice coin, borderline PL. Hold the coin with a light behind you. If you can clearly distinguish your finger at least 8" away (not just a blur) and see the whirls/swirls at least 4" away, probably a good chance at getting a PL. How did I come up with that. I used this coin as my guide. I do not think any of the TPG's would have had an issue with the PL designation.
Since raw, no concern with the slab's reflection. Doesn't work in slabs since they give off a reflection.

8 inches is a little far for a PL.

I would say my 4" of seeing the finger print loops/whorls is the clear reflection definition above. Some use the ability to see clear printed letters in the reflection.

I get what your saying but I do not agree with being able to see your fingerprint from 4 inches away.
Ive tried with some of the graded PL's I have and I can see my finger pretty good but the fingerprint, not so much.

Sorry if I caused confusion, not saying you will see a clear fingerprint, esp since Liberty is so big on the Morgan. But you should be able to see grooves on the finger, I use the thumb, and not just a pink blur reflection.

Im pretty good with PL Morgan's.
I was just shocked when you said-

It sounds more like an ANACS UDM than your typical proof like coin.

There is a bit of grace offered to 1921 Morgans for the PL designation.
I do think your coin qualifies.
I love the teeny tiny "D" mintmark too!

I checked VAMworld and there is no micro D. It sure is tiny.

@redrocket every time you post it makes me wonder what you collect.
Can you posts some images of your collection?
    Id love to see it!
Im not trying to be snarky, I'm totally serious. I see you post alot with your opinion of things but I have never seen you post your coin collection.

    @Morgan13

I am a bit taken aback by your tone.
I was being supportive of your coin and you kind of turned on me.

On forums such as this, "opinions" is about all each of us have. To share them or not? Depends on the thread and if it is interesting.
I found your thread to be interesting and topical and thus responded.

It certainly looks reflective but something about the right side has me thinking altered surfaces. Maybe it’s the lighting.

I dispute that the services are easier on 1921 coins for PL, as another poster said, especially for 21-D and 21-S. There are 49 PL 1921-D Morgans at PCGS and over 20K graded total. These are VERY hard to find and it would be worth over $1K if you get the designation.

I hope it works out well for you. It seems to be a nice coin either way.

Definetly not altered surfaces. I bought it raw and I graded it as I looked it over. If it had an altered surface it would have been a hard pass.
    I believe its a ln MS64PL

    That is a beauty of a 21-D!

That mintmark IS tiny. Wow. I might have missed it if it hadn’t been pointed out.

I love the overall look. Regardless of whether you get the designation, I think we can agree that the surfaces are special, quite uncommon for this date. The only hesitation I have about the coin is the line across the face, which is quite thin and should not sentence this to a details holder and of course does not impact the PL designation.

These 21 PL’s are a cool specialty to have. Congrats on finding that one raw! Good luck!
