Using AI to organize my coin images - part 2

Back in February, I started a fun project with Claude AI and worked on creating/generating a script that would read through a folder of my coin images, read the dates/mintmarks, find major varieties and rename/circle crop these images into a standard that made sense to me. So instead of something generic like IMG_0123.jpg, I'll now have have something like $1_Morgan_1879_S_obv_PCGS.png. Any duplicates will get a v2, v3 and so on appended tag.
This AI has come quite a ways since I first started, especially over the last couple of weeks. In the beginning, the software read the dates ok, but at times 1852 would get picked up as 1862, a mintmark would be missed or an S picked up as on O. Sometimes the denomination would be wrong. As of now, the dates, mintmarks and denominations are pretty much 100%. That has been a huge help. I still have to plug in some of the varieties, but that's not too bad. It appears that the software is adaptive and will pick up more and more of them.
Below is a sample before and after of one of my runs. It's been a cool experience. The file names are hard to read here, but the images can be opened in a new tab to make the names much clearer.

Sounds like a useful application of AI; thanks for sharing!
Interesting! Did you have it write a script/program that you run yourself? Or did you create a new skill? I ask because if it wrote a script, you could also have it run all the time and pick up new images as you drop them in a folder and auto-organize them.

I had Claude come up with a Python script that I could run in the directory where the images are. I run the script by double clicking on it. The biggest batch I've run in on 74 images. Since I use the Claude API's, there is a nominal cost too. But being an IT guy, I consider it as part of my hobby and have found this project to be very fulfilling since I'm retired. When I first looked into AI in 2024 for this, I could barely get one coin to return with a correct date.
