What do you guys think about Mexico beating England Sunday? I heard the England coach say there’s no way his players can adapt to the altitude in Mexico City in time and that they just have to deal with it. I’ll probably make my first World Cup bet for Mexico.

i watched all of Mexico vs Ecuador the other night, in large part because i had some loot on the total. Mexico dominated that game and looked very impressive. along with France & Argentina, the only teams to go undefeated thus far in the World Cup. i think they possess nice value against England. they're dogs. it's a home game for them. it's going to a raucous atmosphere. and yes, serious altitude that they are used to and England isn't. if they lose, they lose. but you could definitely make worse bets. i will probably toss some on them myself.

As mentioned before, Yankees in the midst of a brutal losing streak.

So what happens? The book's computer makes them -194 heavy favorite odds.

Too confusing for me to try and figure out. I'll pass.

Well the Yankees have a one run lead heading into the top of the 5th. But I just don't like the flow of this game for several reasons. Frankly, I handicapped it that the Yankees would have a large lead early in the game. So I cashed out for an 11% profit.

If the Yankees hang on and win, then so be it.

Brewers ML with a 50% profit boost.

Might be a close game, coin flip type, and I normally don't play these. However had to use the fat profit boost tonight or it would expire. So the coin flip odds are in my favor.

Win or lose, it's the right decision.

the kid didn't have it in his first start, so i'm rooting for your bet now. Gotterup & Griffin in good shape, but that damn Spieth guy B). hope he throws it into another gear for you this weekend, but my faith in him is no longer there

France is my final leg of a 5-teamer. if they win today, it'll offset my failed attempt on Koivun

edit: forgot you tossed some on Gotterup to win as well. hope he goes nuclear!

Thanks Galaxy.. I’m definitely rooting for France! I’ve watched a couple games including Colombia’s win last night. And I did see England’s comeback the other day that was really entertaining.
I’m not sure about betting against the Royals today. Their best starter is pitching today but he’s not untouchable and the Phillies have a very good offense. 🤔

I agree, France looks very tough to beat here. I think the French coach is going to warn his players about being complacent against an inferior opponent. As Argentina seemed to do yesterday.

    France ML

Yea I know it's chicken feed odds. And all bets have risk. However my viewpoint is the book's computer remembers the bet amount, etc, and that adds to future profit boost offers. So additional profit can be made on those wagers.

    DarinDarin Posts: 7,825 ✭✭✭✭✭

France has to win it in the second half for my bet to pay but I like the odds. It seems like France is always on offense and Paraguay defense.

-major home-field advantage with rabid fans

    -altitude!

-Mexico has never lost a WC match at Estadio Azteca (8 wins, 2 draws)

-overall they've played 88 competitive matches at that stadium and have lost TWICE

-they have yet to give up a goal in four World Cup games

OF COURSE I'M JUMPING ON PLUS MONEY

    -6496.76

Seems like there's a lot going on here that I don't think the book's computer would completely pick-up on.

I've bet England twice, and am 1-1 with them. The loss was a draw. Thankfully I caught Harry Kane both times with anytime scorer props, so that was nice.

I mention Harry Kane because he is 32 years old. England's star scorer. Admittedly I know zilch about soccer. However I did read somewhere that 32 years old is getting up there a bit in age for a soccer player, and of course this is world class competition. As already mentioned, the high altitude sure isn't going to benefit any soccer player, let alone one who is 32 years old.

Hey what the yell do I know? Perhaps Kane scores 2 goals and England wins easily. But the whole key to winning at this sports betting game is good value, and at plus odds, betting Mexico sure seems to be that. Of course realizing that the best value doesn't always win.

All that being said, I do plan on investing some coin on Mexico. Not sure of the amount yet.

    @stevek

England is the better team on paper. they could easily win. but when you dissect this matchup from multiple angles, value arises with Mexico @ +111.

if i eat a benjamin, fine. i'd place the same bet again in a heartbeat.

i've been reading up on this game and many of the prognosticators think that this is where England is going to shine. that may very well happen. if it does happen, they will have seriously earned it.

i'm highly comfortable with the value play, win or lose

England is a much better team. I expect them to dominate the game tonight.

If it’s 0-0 at the half I think the advantage shifts to Mexico. Regardless their record in the tournament their defensive line is suspect. A high quality system with average talent. Just what a team like England will exploit with constant pressure in the offensive third with a reliable path to goal through a guy comfortable with back to net. Good luck Mexico.

I just read that Harry Kane is going to play with an oxygen tank strapped on his back.

Don't know if that's legal or not?

    bgrbgr Posts: 4,523 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jimenez and Gimenez are both excellent but the English back line plays against them in Premier league. England is more of a who’s who of the Champions league though while past Mexicos strikers it’s Liga and some mid tier Euro teams.

England’s midfield is elite with Rice and Bellingham. Kane is going to dominate with his size and power up front but watch Rice control the pace - he’s the best player on the field. And they’re up against one of the real best back lines in the tournament.

I want Mexico to pull this out but it’s not close to me and I think the pressure is on Mexico at home here. I don’t think their system will be able to hold a block against such a talented midfield.

It's still early, but Mexico is now at -104

With the boost, I'm in at +133 so I'm very pleased about that.

Now all Mexico has to do for me is win the game. 🤔

Harry Kane, he probably has a lot of money. Would be best advised to buy a plane ticket for himself, a flight tonight back to England, just lose this game, intentionally miss all of his shots, and get out of town as quickly as possible.

This comment has nothing to do with my wager on Mexico. I'm just concerned about Harry's safety and well being.

A few interesting tidbits, probably of interest to nobody but me. LOL

Harry Kane is +140 anytime goalscorer. Considering his propensity for scoring goals, and England is the favorite, I think the book's computer is saying that he's not really expected to score. So I think that may be good sign for Mexico.

Mexico is +150 to score the first goal. Dam I really like this prop. Problem is I don't know chit about soccer, and don't have a clue how to visualize this prop into math. Whether it might favor me betting on it or not? So I'm gonna pass on it, and if it hits, yes I'll be hissed for around five seconds, but then again be glad Mexico scored first and took the lead.

    interesting line movement

Mexico went from +111 last night (when I placed my bet) to -104 now

USA went from -107 all the way to -125 when the Balogun news hit, but now the line has been driven back down to -113

and Norway (+370 to win in regulation) did just that and took out Brazil

So…. I made this bet after the third round of the Deere tournament. Gotterup down by 5 shots. I basically made the bet to bring my balance to a nice round number and I had a profit boost. Hence the odd amount of 17.96
Yes that’s a retarded reason to place a bet. Especially such long odds. So Gotterup proceeds to go nuclear and shoot 9 under 62. I cashed out when he was tied for the lead at 20 under, he was done and the other guy had about 4 holes left to play. It was a birdie fest and I thought no way does -20 win. Well the other guy is still -20 going to 18 and hits a beautiful drive. Then he unbelievably hits his second into the water. I couldn’t believe it. He makes bogey and Gotterup wins. This bet would have payed over $1,100. I have mixed feelings. Who would be dumb enough but me to make that bet in the first place. 😩😄😫🥳

    @Darin

i just had coffee exit my nose. i glanced at the leaderboard earlier today, then got tied up and didn't think about the Deere again. i cannot believe Gotterup ended up winning, and i most definitely cannot believe that bet you placed last night. HOLY SHIT. dude i know it's a tough pill to swallow, but you did the right thing. i absolutely would have followed suit. no reason in the world to think that -20 was going to hold up when another guy was level with him and had 4 to play. not on that track!

don't kick yourself bro -- you made some NICE change on him! you won the 10$ for 91$ as well, right?

outstanding! i fully expect to see weekly PGA Tour bets from you now :D 🍻

edit: question to ponder.........i'm pretty much retarded every day of my life......so why can't i ever make "retarded" bets like that?!
