Just came across the eBay listing for CERT #1080014. Shocked by the asking price.
It appears to be a green label instead of the white label.

That's not the asking price. It is the opening bid on a nine-day auction.
Can it be an “opening bid” before there’s been a bid?

I think the whole thing is crazy.
Maybe #1 would be worth crazy money.
I suspect someone somewhere is sitting on lower slab numbers.
So you buy this and #10 pops up. Does it help or hurt #14.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were at least a few, which collectors are sitting on, not even being aware of what they have.

It's possible. A lot of the early ones did get broken out. The market is what the market is. Never argue with the market.

Wow, that seller is asking for ALL of the money. Hard Pass for me, though, I’ll not begrudge a deep pocketed slab enthusiast.

Yes, the eBay listing appears to be a green label with ribbed paper and not white. Also look at the 3 and 5's on the 1.0 white labels below compared to the 3 & 5 in the eBay listing.
Based on the seller’s eBay profile, it looks like he’s a dealer who’s an enthusiast of selling a lot of coins, slabbed or otherwise. I doubt that he has any special appreciation for the rare holder/label, beyond the opportunity for profit.
That isn’t meant to be a criticism, just an observation.

I'll reserve judgement until if/when it sells. To state the obvious, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. It could just be the seller trying to get attention, although they're a huge seller so I doubt it.

I have my doubts as to whether that is an authentic holder, because the color of the label and font are wrong, as another member has just pointed out. Regardless, the seller recognizes what he has (possibly) and is asking a lot of money for it. I don’t care if he’s an enthusiast or not. He’s trying to appeal to the enthusiast. That’s what I was alluding to.

Assuming these were issued in numerical order --- 1080001, 1080002, 1080003, etc. --- and judging from the listed images it's easy to make some observations on the eBay listed coin. Coin number 1080014 has an insert which has a different color and texture from those which came after it and the font as noted isn't the same.
My Military-type mind draws 2 conclusions, only one of which seems logically correct:
--- PCGS started or switched to the 1080014 insert/font and sometime between 1080014-1080017 switched to the white insert with a different font. Absurdly not likely.
--- The eBay listing is for a fake. An almost certainty.

You got me. Yes, must have at least a single bid.

Interesting listing! 1080017, Gen. 1.0, sold for $119K in 2025 on GC.
Perhaps this one, 1080014, started out as a 1.0 but got re-holdered into a Gen. 1.2 for some reason (damaged slab, mechanical error, etc).
Would be cool if 1080001 was still being held by Hall, Van Simmons or another insider.
Doubtful, but I like your line of reasoning and what got you there.

A 3rd reasonable assumption I had never considered.

I just went and ran some cert numbers starting with 1080015. Some came up and listed the coins, others said they couldn't be found which might mean the coins were cracked and the insert submitted to PCGS. Interesting.

Very interesting…. Same coin

Issued in order, it would suggest this coin was the 14th one ever submitted. Due to crackers, there are a limited number of the very first submissions available. It has historical interest.

This is very interesting. Looks like you have a really big beef with the seller and ebay.
You won and paid for the coin. Then - apparantly from your post - they said the coin was prev sold - but it appears again under the same seller?
Hmmm.
