📦 Why “putting old quarters into storage” works
This is the part most people don’t understand.

The coin distribution system is stable and demand‑driven.

    If the Fed:

    stores older quarters

    releases only new designs

    pauses FIFO rotation

…then the new quarters don’t just “enter circulation.”

    They get pulled into circulation.

    Banks request quarters.
    Contractors fill the orders.
If the only available stock is new designs, those designs dominate circulation immediately.

This is exactly how the State Quarters achieved near‑total penetration in under a year.

Those were different times. More people paid in cash and I don't remember any coin shortages. Now we have electronic payments....

The FED can't force anyone to use cash but they can certainly force new quarters into the hands of those who do.

You have much more faith in the FED than me. Only time will tell if you are correct. I believe new coin boxes of this quarter will be circulated by banks well in to 2027.

It appears the boxes of these are outwardly different from the usual as the banks receive them.
Here's a reddit thread from a bank worker, with the typical reddit warm welcome. He just replied with a cropped Pic of the label on the box. He was worried about doxxing his workplace, but was nice to see what was written and that the whole box was in a plastic bag.

I’m not really sure what to make of that thread or those pics. To me the label just reads more as an indicator that these are 2026 quarters, which the next pic also showed.

Here’s a roll which could have more than the one on the end….or not. $5000 OBO. Go for it!

Same seller has sold one for $1000 and also has an auction up for another with bids at $410 and climbing.

Is this one of the first ones found? Does this guy know someone at the Federal Reserve bank?

Seems to be one of the first. I’ve not seen any real photos of one until today. There was another one all scratched up from another seller that sold for $500, but so far that’s all I’ve seen.

Suspicious that he has sold 2, and has at least two more listed.

And why sell for $500 when PCGS has a $5000 bounty?

Was curious about his location to see where they’ve shown up, but all it says is “United States”. I’ve seen a post on a YouTube video that he offered that roll to them for $2500

Here we go again. Someone at the bank knows someone who buys the whole box.
Said person searches the box and turns up a few.
I suppose each box may have some - 5-10 coins.

I just unwrapped a $500 box and found maybe 10 -2025 minted coins, the rest just avg dates. I might be off here, and my one-time sample size of a single box is unlikely to be indicative of others experience, but I am thinking these 4th of July coins are going to be in circulation (or boxes stored at the mint) for years to come. But that's ok, gives us something to look forward to. I did find a V75 quarter so it wasn't a complete wash. Congrats to the finders of the 4th of July quarter!

Back in 2019, the mint said the W quarters would be distributed evenly throughout the country... It never happened. It was totally hosed up mess! Some guy found boxes of W's quarters and others never found one coin.

I'm not complaining, I'm one of the guys that found hundreds of W's. I just got lucky, right location of the country at the right time. I'm wondering if the fed learned from the W program and has come up with a better plan to evenly distribute the coins nation wide.

The mint put a handful or two on top in ballistic bags. Of course there was a tendency for them to go into just a few dozen rolls that came from the bag. I have little doubt that the individuals responsible to do the job wanted to get rid of them so often added more than they were supposed to. Since the coins were on top bags could be checked by sampling sampling. Some people got lots of them.

This time they said they would put them inside the bags and implied they'd be spread out more. There may be only a few hundred Uncs found. Let's wait and see.

They were suppose to have been salted in. But you're right, who knows.

I regret just not hunting enough rolls. Only found 10-15 as of now even though Dallas was supposedly one of the hotspots

Initially, these will be distributed in boxes of the 2026 Jefferson quarters. All the rolls in the box will be the same brand new 2026 Jefferson quarters.

If those rolls are distributed by the banks to customers or opened by tellers to give change then eventually a 4th of July quarter may make it's way back to be rerolled with mixed dates quarters.

Right now you want to get your hands on a box of new rolls.

I'm averaging 1-2 rolls worth in the new boxes I just received yesterday mixed with other circulated quarters, but none yet of the Jefferson Design at all!

I believe you misunderstood my comment. You need to find a box of all new 2026 Jefferson quarters.

If you are getting boxes with mixed years of quarters then you are basically wasting your time searching for the 4th of July privy mark 2020 Jefferson quarters at this time.

My initial find was completely at random. I had heard about the W quarter release in 2018 or 2019 but didn't think I had a chance of finding any, so I just forgot about it.

I was at my credit union in early 2020. I had 30 bucks in my pocket and asked the teller if I could have 3 rolls of quarters. She gave them to me. I could see they were brand new red Loomis rolls.

I got home and just put them on the table. I didn't open them till late the night. 7 W's fell out of those 3 rolls!! I couldn't believe it!! I couldn't sleep that night!! The next day, I was at the from door of that credit union at 9:00!! Got the rest of that box and started hitting every bank and financial institution within a 30 mile radius of the house. That's how it started for me.

Bottom-line: You never know unless you try.

You would be surprised. Some tellers don't even know. They look at them and question; is this real or legal tender? 😂 🤣

I've given some tellers old clad Ike's. They had to call their supervisors over to ask; are these real?? 😂. 😂

Based on current ebay auctions - in hand privys popping up in different parts of PA, SC so far.

  • Options
    coinercoiner Posts: 859 ✭✭✭✭✭

Based on current production figures of the Decl of Independence Qtr - and if the 250k privy's were distributed evenly; it would be 3 to 4 per box.
I happen to think that is low and they probably didnt evenly distribute; my guess is at least 10 per box.

    coinercoiner Posts: 859 ✭✭✭✭✭

147.8m produced (total) in both Phila and Denver; 250,000 privy's available.

one thing that would have been very cool to do - after the release of the Independence Qtr roll sets and Bags (first day sales) - the USM should have announced you would get 1 privy per bag; or 1 privy per 2 roll set.
this kind of promotion would spur huge interest in those products.

Didn’t those sell out nearly immediately? Not sure they needed to spur more interest.

Just think about it - if they double the amount of roll sets, they die on the vine.
However, if they inject a little interest (such as possibly getting something special if you buy the two roll set or the bags), they can sell many more units.
