Collectors' Clearinghouse column suspended once again

I've decided to suspend my column in Coin World because I haven't been paid since February. This is the second time this has happened. The first time led to a year-long hiatus. I'm sorry to disappoint my readers, but I'm not responsible for the owner's failings.

Can’t say that I blame you. It is sad to see it go.
Best wishes to you. I do hope things get resolved one day 🙏
YOU didn't disappoint your readers, the person or persons who failed to pay you for your work did. No need to assume responsibility for that, or apologize for it.
don't know I have ever read your columns as I don't read coin world......
But would sure like to see some of your work posted here. I know we would
all appreciate it.
"You" decided to suspend your column in Coin World? Why you? If I couldn't pay someone, it would be my responsibility to suspend them. Although, I'm sure you stuck around these months because you loved what you were doing.
Would be curious to know your conversations with Coin World but that would be personal/privileged information. We're also not aware of your contract agreement with them.
Not that you aren't, but I'm not aware of any other publications you might be associated with. What are the chances of you being picked up by other publications........with pay?
Do you get paid for work you produce? Does anyone pay anyone to produce their work here?
Yes, we would "all appreciate" viewing content for free, but then the authors don't get paid. If @errormaven didn't care about not being paid, he never would have started this thread in the first place.
Responding to USSID18, I do have a monthly column in the ANA "Reading Room". But it mainly consists of basic information and summaries of the current state of knowledge for the error category under discussion.
I am saddened!
Your column is the only reason I subscribe!
I will not be renewing!
Clearinghouse was/is always the first go to section of Coin World for me. Bad news how this has become a problem for you. Hope you are made whole by CW. Not right. Enjoy your work in CC.
Did you pick up your phone and call the owner of Coin World? If so, what did he say? If not, why not?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

I've contacted Rick Amos. I haven't received a satisfactory answer. And I've heard nothing in the last month.
It sounds like CW is having financial difficulties.

Yes, CW is having financial difficulties. Because, in the age of the internet, people, like @habaraca right here, want everything for free, while CW cannot produce a quality publication on advertising revenue alone.
Maybe an unpopular thing for me to say here, on this free internet forum, but I don't think anyone who isn't a paid CW subscriber should be weighing in here, because they are part of CW's problem, not @errormaven's solution.
well well another AH to mute/block........"people, like @habaraca right here, want everything for free."
you really don't know me and you certainly don't understand english, or my intentions very well......
all you know is your own ego....... I feel so sorry for your family they have to live with you..... (how about that for assumption's)
sharing knowledge is ALL that this site is about I didn't ask for his column, just to share some wisdom/knowledge
so maybe myself and others would be willing to subscribe to his work...
So glad I will not ever have to read your dribble again.

Correct. Block me.
You "didn't ask for his column"? He is literally a columnist complaining he wasn't paid for his work. What did you think you were asking for when you said "would sure like to see some of your work posted here"?
"So sorry you aren't being paid for your work, and I never paid for CW, but would sure like to see some of your work posted here. I know we would all appreciate it. For free, of course. Thanks!" 🤣🤣🤣
My loss being blocked by you. Would you do it if CU charged for the privilege??? 🤣🤣🤣
And I feel sorry for the apostrophe's that you so freely abuse. 🤣🤣🤣
Trade publications are struggling in general in all marketplaces.
The age of information has disrupted the necessity of a dedicated source. Providing compelling content must be challenging at best IMO.
The honorable thing to do in that case is shut the doors and go home before you've gone into debt, not stiff your employees/contractors who have already provided goods/services.
I subscribed for 50+ years, except for the five years that I worked there and got it for free, so I feel qualified to comment even though I let my subscription lapse when they crashed and burned a couple of years ago.
I have a good friend who worked there when I did. He has been a columnist for decades, but they stopped paying him a while back, and eventually started re-running old columns of his without the courtesy of asking permission or even informing him that they were doing so. They never paid him for the last several new columns that they used.
I happen to be a subscriber, and I am absolutely not condoning anyone stiffing anyone for work satisfactorily completed. All I'm saying is that anyone, including you, with all due respect, who does not financially contribute to CW, is part of the reason why they cannot pay their columnists, so it's really hypocritical to comment.
"They crashed and burned a couple of years ago," and you checked out. Fair enough.
Maybe @errormaven should have done the same. But failing to recognize that people like you, doing what you did, are the very reason why CW lacks the resources to meet its obligations, and then commenting on how CW does not meet its obligations, is really lacking self awareness.
At some point they will close their doors, people like me will lose the remainder of our subscriptions, and then we will all have one less thing to complain about. Just sayin'. Anyone who really cares about @errormaven and his plight should maybe sign up for a subscription, rather than coming onto a free coin forum to poop on CW.
That's... Distasteful
I subscribe to CW digital but I guess it's not enough. To little, to late.
I hope they get there due
I don't think there's anything at all hypocritical about having an opinion on a topic you are not financially invested in.
I actually had this conversation with a textbook publisher last week. I told them that you really need to get Tech corps or the government to start charging for AI use or you are out of business. I'm experimenting with my students this year to use Gemini or ChatGPT as a free homework system.
Students already expect everything to be free. They pirate textbooks (and other media) and have been trying to ban subscription homework systems because they have to pay to play. Publishers switched to subscription homework systems because the internet made it impossible for them to sell traditional textbooks profitably.

So, you're saying that I can't comment on fentanyl unless I have a subscription?

I bet when they get their degree, they'll expect to be paid at their first job.

Are you having a bad day?
That's what I tell them. They don't seem to see the connection.

They'll figure it out. Some sooner than others.
Well we are getting one side. Obviously they are trying to stay afloat. Maybe they are waiting for advertising monies or renegotiating bank line ratios or other avenues to inject capital.
To just say fold your tent is not really fair unless you are in their shoes and know the specifics.
Sure, that's right.
None of those things are excuses (they may be explanations) for not paying people who are owed money. How do you suppose you'd react if your employer hadn't paid you for four months?
would if I could, put you on IGNORE.......
But your profile is set to private. What you scared of?
You're armchair quarterbacking again. I've held paychecks to keep a company afloat.
You have every right to armchair quarterback....but that's what it is.
You mean it's okay to have an opinion? Thanks!
I'd try a Substack column. You can make good money if you have a significant number of subscribers that can be as low as $2.50 a month. The print media is under severe stress for a lot of economic reasons.
I'm confused. Yes, he's expressing an opinion. Call it "armchair quarterbacking", if you like, although the connotationson that term are more negative. That term suggests that the individual lacks the experience to hold an opinion. The fact that companies (orc yourself) have done that or worse (raid any pension funds?) Isn't really justification. Where's the line for keeping the company afloat? It's okay not to pay suppliers? Employees? Can you raid pension funds? Hide safety issues? File false financials? Set fire to the competition? I'm sure someone out there has done all of those things for the alleged good of keeping the company afloat.

It's okay to have the CORRECT opinion. 😆

I notice he didn't call his opinion that.
Of course. And my opinion is that it's unfair to ask someone or any entity to close shop or cease business without knowing more details.
That is all no more no less. Simply a post to disagree with your approach.
I am NOT saying that you should, or should not, use the ignore feature. That is your decision.
But, it is possible to add someone to your ignore list if their profile is private.
1) Go to your profile page.
Link: https://forums.collectors.com/profile/habaraca
2) Select "Edit Profile".

3) Select "Ignore List".

4) Enter a "Username" (e.g., MetroD).

5) Select "OK" to confirm.

That's because he has experience. Tom Brady isn't an armchair QB because he was an actual QB. That's why the term is dismissive in its connotations.

Maybe PCGS can stick this to the top of the forum. And we're all going to need at least 50 slots on the list.

Thanks muchly........
now my list is full for sure need more than 5
My issue is not the 5 person limit but that it only sort of greys out the ignored user. I wish there was a way to make it like a social media block where you don't see anything from the blocked person.

Anyone who really cares about @errormaven and his plight should maybe sign up for a subscription, rather than coming onto a free coin forum to poop on CW.
And anyone who isn't a paid member of Coin Universe (PCGS) and actively sends coins in for grading should not negatively comment on this forum.
Also, if you don't purchase coins from eBay, stop your complaining about all things eBay.
If you don't purchase and submit coins to Heritage and/or Great Collections, stop your whining.
(I think we get your drift. . .)
How about you mind your own business and stop telling people how to mind theirs
