Help me understand...tilted & partial collar?? 2025 P Half Dollar

KurisuKurisu Posts: 2,196 ✭✭✭✭✭

Always willing to put myself out there for the learning.
Trying to fully understand and picture in my head how it happened...

Thinking partial and tilted collar?
Does that actually make sense...is a tilted collar also considered to be a partial collar?

Teach me things please. I appreciate you all!

It appears to be damage. A partial collar would not have reeding on the portion of the coin that didn’t contact the collar.

Not entirely accurate. If the coin was double-struck, where only the second strike had a partial collar, there could be two sets of reeding from the two strikes.

However, this coin is simply damaged. The design is moved inward and upward at the area where the reeding is flattened. That's exactly the opposite of what would be seen with a genuine US Mint strike.

I asked @Kurisu if I could post these here for opinions.

These were 3 clad quarters that came out of unopened bank roll.

Thanks everyone. I was wondering why I was seeing a hint of the reeding on the inner part. Now damage makes sense.>

I appreciate you asking @USSID18 and I also appreciate any additions to my life long lessons
...Now those, I recognize as tilted collars. I hope I'm right, especially since I feel pretty confident about it lol.
