Wouldn't it be so neat if a full 1921 Proof Set exists?

So we have all the various Proof 1921 Dollars, and now the pending sale of the 1921 Proof Double Eagle. Wouldn't it be neat if it's discovered that a complete set was struck? I know youre all going to say Im cray-cray but there were several clandestine Proof strikes in the 1920's so a full set isn't totally impossible. And just think it would include the only Proof of the whole SLQ series! Ah I can dream...

Philately will get you nowhere....

Read the last chapter of my book on the cents of 1922. Late in that year, after only Cents, Silver Dollars and Double Eagles had been struck (excluding commemoratives), a high hobby figure tried to get the Mint to strike a limited number of six-coin Proof Sets (Cent through Silver Dollar) for sale to collectors. They said no quite emphatically.

This, along with the existence of the dollars and double eagles, along with the multiple Proof silver commemorative coins struck in the 1920s make me believe (hope? 😉) even more that a full set or two was actually struck.

You can wish, hope or believe as much as you’d like to. But there hasn’t even been a rumor or such coins, much less, any hint that they exist. If they did, it would be among the best kept secrets in numismatics, and an unnecessary one, at that.

    Edited to add:
“And just think it would include the only Proof of the whole SLQ series! Ah I can dream...”

There are Proof pattern 1916 SLQ’s - do they count?😉

Read that chapter in my book. There is no way in Hell that any full sets were struck.

The history in your book is worthy of a read by any collector, whether or not they care about the 1922 cent. I found it fascinating and never really understood the period very well for what was produced until reading your book.
