Value of a BGS #57 Jordan?

Hey everyone! I’m new to this board and know it’s generally about PSA cards, but most of you all are experts on all graders. I’m curious as to everyone’s thoughts on this card and BGS’s grading system in 2012 (When I had it Graded). It’s a 8.5 Corners, 9 centered, and 9.5 Edges/Surface. Also, do you see BGS cards like this going up over time or down based on PSA’s strong hold on vintage grading? Thanks!!

I think having it graded by PSA…even if it comes in a grade lower (PSA-8) is your best approach/value. Nice card!
Thanks. Do most of you all sell your cards to private buyers or ever at an auction house like Heritage, REA, or Goldin? Prices on the auctions are like 16-17k hammer and PSA 8s seem to be much lower (7k-10k). Do you think this card loses value over time in a BGS slab graded in 2012?
I like 4 SC monthly Showcase Auctions. 4 SC takes only 5% for cards selling for $1000 or more….and receive prices as good as Heritage Auctions, REA, or Memory Lane.
I think your card would appreciate at a faster rate in a PSA holder than in a BGS holder.
I would get it graded by PSA or put in a new BGS slab.

Sure maybe try and cross it with min grade 9 but otherwise you’ll do better at auction with a BGS 9 over a PSA 8.
I was skeptical, but the data absolutely supports this. The only downside would be some missed blemish which limits it to a below 8 grade. Having the sub-grades on the BGS as strong as they are provides some confidence. I pulled some data and charted. I'm a little surprised. I am surprised.
I'd love to get a real clear image of the card. It's most likely just the poor quality of the image, but that lower right side looks like someone used a red sharpie on it.
and here's the actual sales chart.
bgr…
What is the difference in the two (2) charts. The 1st shows PSA-8 better than a bgs-9…but the 2nd shows by 2026 bgs-9 passes PSA-8? What gives?
One was a projection which included web data and in the second I pulled actual sales from my cardladder prem. acct. There were some recent bangers that I didn't get in the basic scape. Heating up it seems.
If factoring in the cost, close to 4 figures when all is said and done, of having it PSA graded is it then still worth it? In addition if it receives a 7 which is highly likely, if not the most probable outcome in current times, then we know it isn't worth it. It will amount to near 50% lose in value + the grading fees = OUCH!
IMHO the small amount of potential extra juice simply ain't worth the squeeze. High stakes gambling for low stakes additional reward

To show those possibilities.
5.4/19.8 x 100%= 27% decline if a PSA-7
I agree it's a good expected value, but it's not my money. My algo has it at 3.8:1 for crossover based on sub-grades - which are no guarantee.
If a submitter like Chris/uffdah gets hammered on pretty much pristine cards there is no way the Jordan in this thread scores higher than a 7.

You also cannot rule out a 6.
Now if it's cracked out and consigned to 4SC and they submit it might be rather lucrative ?

I would send to PSA as crossover with min grade PSA 8.5. If it doesn’t land PSA 8.5+, then send to 4SC to auction as the BGS 9. Great card!!
It's tough to say what the quality is given the image we have. I would expect the owner to assess the card or ask for some advice at a card shop perhaps. Maybe it's worth an in-holder review with min-grade of 7 to set a floor for your potential loss.
Yeah, that is a bad picture that I took with a phone. It has great eye appeal in person. My brother and I own the card and it’s at his house. So, I’ll try to get a high resolution pic next time I’m there. Been studying how to do it with my iPhone and the right lighting.
Thanks for the data! I personally haven’t seen any Jordan PSA 8s get close to the BGS 9s this year. PSA 9s and 10s are way more valuable in the market though. A BGS 9 with 3 nines and an 8.5 went for 21k today on eBay. Graded a year or two before this one. I was shocked, but all the 9s I looked up from this year went for 18-21k. The auctions have been consistently around 16-18k mark, but are advertised as “20-22k” because of the 22-23% buyers fee. eBay doesn’t have that buyer’s fee so J could understand ppl wanting to purchase from there. Maybe the BGS 9s are heating up 🤷🏻♂️Thanks again to you and everyone for the info. Keep it coming! We’ve had this card since we were kids so never thought about selling. Just now learning.
Zackly.
if the psa 8 is already realizing less than a bgs 9, leave it as is. if it does cross, you will have to pay an upcharge as well.
anecdotally, i am hearing a lot of negative comments about psa. could this be the very early beginning of a sea change in third party grading?
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Monte nailed the expected value formula but there is no doubt there’s money risked in the thousands.
Might be if they did not purchase all the viable competition ar least on non ultra modern sports cards

Would need to see sharper/clearer pictures of the card. There's something going on bottom right corner -- but it could just be the inner plastic BGS uses that's on the card. As others have pointed out there would be a substantial cost to crossover given the card's value. Perhaps a less expensive way to maintain your card's value (or maybe even increase it slightly) might be to get one of those 2nd Opinion Stickers.
