I think it is a nice coin except for the hit and/or wear above the ear.
I will send the ngc grade later.

The ear area seems to be a high spot that is a problem on many Morgans from what I have seen. Thinking maybe an MS62 or so…..🤔
58 is my WAG

I'm not seeing much wear on the cotton bolls; probably MS62/3.
Probably AU58 but I wouldn’t be surprised by MS62

Agreed.
The Goob got it.
AU/MS 58/62'ish
58 or 62. It would have to be seen in-hand.
I also see it as a 58/62

I am not seeing an MS grade. I don't think this one is worth the gamble of crossing. If your goal is to have an 1893 Morgan in a PCGS holder, I would sell this one and use that money towards a PCGS graded example in the MS spectrum.

Very nice key date coin. From photos would grade AU58+. Seems like the eagle's luster on breast feathers and Liberty's cheek had some circulation effects and the wispy scratches on obverse was also from circulation.
Are you selling it?

Morgan13: no I do not plan to sell it.
Coinkat is correct I prefer pcgs holders.
Looks MS-63 and I wouldn't cross it at all.

My bet is it would not receive a straight grade due to the cleaning marks on the obv. If the graders feel those are from circulation then AU58 is the highest it should grade. If the current grade is MS I would not try.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
That looks more like a wipe cleaning more than the light circulation slide marks argument to me. But since this looks like it's in a bit of an older holder to me, it wouldn't have been graded as details since NGC didn't holder details coins until 2009 or so.
Assuming the previous is correct, I'd guess this was graded as an AU58.
Hard to tell from pictures if coin is AU or MS. Aside from grading/shipping fees there’s no downside submitting to PCGS as a crossover with a minimum grade.
58 here.
My guess is 61 or 62.
Agree with skier07: "Aside from grading/shipping fees there’s no downside submitting to PCGS as a crossover with a minimum grade.", since you prefer PCGS holders.
Unless it is a really poor photograph, the coin is NOT a Mint State coin. At best, AU58.
58/63

I'd send it for a CAC sticker attempt and regroup after then.

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions.
I too am somewhat conflicted with this Coin, even though it was graded by NGC as MS 60 my initial thought was AU 58 however, when I compare this coin to others on the Pcgs’s website it looked just as good as some of the low end, MS Coins.
A few people suggested “Aside from grading/shipping fees there’s no downside submitting to PCGS as a crossover with a minimum grade.", since you prefer PCGS holders.” Which I think I will do.
I would leave it as is .Nice coin ! I like the date
I suspect that NGC holder is likely 22-25 yrs old… possibly more. I would leave it in the holder as it is and sell it if your goal is obtaining a ‘99 in a PCGS holder

Sending coins in for regrade:
I have had upgrades and downgrades. Impossible to really predict.
However if you think it has a shot above MS60 send it in. If it fails would just write off the grading cost to opex.
Enjoy your gift.
I'd see it as an unc.; whether there is "stacking friction" or not the jury is out. Friction over the ear vs. friction on the cotton bolls on the head which may be a better indication.
I think the current holder is more attractive than the PCGS holder.
I would just leave as is.
Although the coin may have never circulated nor have evidence of high point wear, there appears from the photos to be luster breaks on both sides of the coin from post mintage 'handling'. The scratches also don't support a MS grade. It is still a very nice and valuable coin and agree with other posters, I like the old NGC holder. I would enjoy as-is
