SGC to have Booth at the National and take In Person Submissions

This is a huge surprise as it was said when Peter left and they said they were striving to be a “boutique” grader and they would not do any more shows. Assume PSA shutdown of Value has something to do with this. I predict that SGC shuts down from a backlog of submissions the day after The National. I expect they will do very well with PSAs minimum card value now on the vintage side.
No idea what this means long term but I am rooting for SGC to stay relevant in vintage. Will PSA let SGC staff up to handle the volume and grow - or will they keep them shut down well past PSA and let them wither?
Before this announcement I was sure it was wither. Maybe it is advantageous for PSA to direct the almost miniscule vintage grading subset (relative to TCG and ultramodern) to SGC - institute a guarantee - and revise prices to heavily upcharge based on card value I.e the PSA pricing model.
I could see a world where PSA only grades vintage above a certain value level and SGC is essentially given the rest of that piece to concentrate on and have the focus to bring back consistency.

I love the SGC look but it's hard to trust grading with them when they seem to be withering. Why risk putting your cards and money into a grading service that PSA seems to be killing? They need to do more to rebuild people's trust and confidence they'll be around for the long haul.
Surprise that’s the new bulk rate for now. (Sgc grading option).Psa ain’t opening for years now by design. 100.00+ for now if you want a psa case. I’m also guessing in 3 months sgc will be 22.99 for 6 month grading if you need it. Happy they are opening again at the show.
When SGC set up at shows, I always submitted 20+ cards. Since CU stepped in and forbade them from setting up for shows, there have been zero submissions.
good to hear. I have always liked SGC and have some pretty big cards in their holders. also a BGS fan and glad to see their gem rate numbers are way up!
is SGC grading on-site or just taking subs?

Just taking subs. I will be doing a submission there and more importantly for me getting some reholders on cracked slabs on cards I don't want to mail in.
gotcha. if they ever do on site grading again, i would probably travel as i really dont trust shipping cards anymore. too many "mistakes" and lost mail from usps/fed ex etc. dont want to risk shipping big cards.
it is my understanding that in person submissions are still packed up and shipped from the show to SGC headquarters for the actual grading. that wouldnt help my "fear" of the usps!

If they pack the cards and ship them from the show to SGC HQ, what type of protection do we have if "lost during shipping" -- considering they lost the cards while they had possession?
I guess they would owe you whatever you insured them for. for me, i would rather have the cards than insurance money.

I can't believe it's almost time for the National again.
SGC is pretty consistent for the most part. BUt the holder really shows off the centered cards. I sold a 1989 Bowman Tiffany Bo Jackson SGC 8 the other day for $130. The previous high was $60, for a PSA 8. All because the card looked great in the holder.
I am curious about that. I purposely used SGC at the old Chantilly, VA show to avoid having to ship them in.

In the past you'd have lost majority of your estimated value, now you would lose most of it. Honestly you'd be lucky to get .05 on the dollar in this situation.
Safest way to go is private insurance via CIS or Chubb and ship them, yes ship, in the precise manner according to the terms of your policy

At least once they are in possession the shipping’s are all ‘on them’ so to speak.
Always a risk- if a card is truly irreplaceable I would not ship it. Fly with it and do walk-thru service and fly home with it.

This is one of the many reasons I stopped sending in tickets. Getting too risky with all the lost packages. USPS has become a joke and I dont trust fed ex and UPS. Most of my tickets are rare and irreplaceable. So I would rather have the tickets instead of insurance money.
I haven't subbed with SGC in a while for cards and was looking at them again. Liked them when they were their own company.

A lot of the raw cards on FB etc may very well be those stolen by the employees of the shipping entities then cracked out.

What happened to the super fast service SGC used to have? Now its 2 1/2 to 3 month turnaround?? Unreal.

CU is purposely slowing it down as they do not want their golden child (PSA) to look bad.
I agree and IMHO not smart as what it will likely accomplish is have more and more folks go to the vileness that is The CGC.

Also heard CU pulled graders from SGC and reassigned them to the PSA backlog. If true, that would certainly impact SGC's turnaround time.
I’ve had a submission into SGC going on 4 months now with no movement. 🙁

Now that PSA is closed, its probably going to get much worse. Probably will be looking at 6-8 month turnaround.
I was planning on sending a 50 card sub to SGC, but changed my mind because I dont feel like waiting half a year to get it back. Just not a good time right now.

Well if you are going to wait ANYWAY why not send them in? So 6-8 months from now you get your cards graded. Now you want to wait maybe 3-4 months for turnaround time to drop to 3 months but you are STILL waiting 6-7 months.. So many things in life we never TRUELY use our minds to actually THINK! Mush/Rock on!
Yeah. The sooner you sub the sooner it's back. It's a Sophie's Choice. Do I want to wait a year now or put off sending them in a few months and wait a year from THEN?
So crazy.
Nah, I would rather keep them raw then make grading companies who give poor service rich. Last time I sent in a sub when PSA was closed I waited 13 months to get my stuff back. Never again!!
Not to mention, the risk at USPS losing my package, which has been happening lately at an alarming rate.

Yowza...then your position might be that grading has lost its luster and may even one day have little to no value?
