Went to a local show today. It was great. Met and talked with other collectors and dealer ( some new and some I have done business with for years).
At the show was new inventory that had been off the market for decades, Multiple dealers had fresh stock consisting of collections assembled over decades by collectors who recently died. Their children did not collect and sold to the dealers, who put these coins into their cases at the show.
This fresh material included proof sets from 1937 through 1964. The quality was amazing, including Toned proofs, Cameo proofs and toned Cameo proofs. I bought some proof sets containing some gorgeous coins, but could not purchase everything that appealed to me.
I will spend time with them tomorrow and post photos.
All in all a very enjoyable hobby day.

Usually when I hear about old time collections that were acquired, it’s “we sold most of it to Big National Dealer X, but we still have the Lincoln cents and buffalo nickels that he collected from circulation “.
Its awful disheartening at times
I went to a local show today and got all the 1992-2009 silver proof dimes, among other things. Didn't have the silver state quarters I wanted though.
I totally agree that my local coin shows have given me a great opportunity to purchase some substantially important coins(IMHO). A couple of the dealers I purchase from, go to the major shows and bring fresh material to look at. Over the past 4 years, my collection has expanded into new areas I would have never explored had I not attended these local shows.
Local shows are an integral part of the fabric of this hobby. I’ve made many great relationships over the years.
I’m lucky to be in an area with a few that are very well established and run by great people who care about the hobby.
I agree, the local Buffalo Numismatic Association monthly show is a great place to meet collectors and dealers alike..

The coins are very nice. I will submit at least some of them for grading, including the entire 1942 proof set.

My advise to collectors who have gone weary of seeing the same old-same old at local shows and quit going to them as a result is to get yourself to the next show in your area. I was in attendence at a Des Moines, Iowa show just this weekend. Dealer after dealer at this show was offering amazing coins for the collector to consider.
I think what is happening is that with higher than ever prices for groceries to gas (and most everything else) plaguing us, dealers have been able to buy really nice coins from collectors who are trying to improve their cash positions. I could have easily spent three times more as much as I budgeted myself for this show. That's how good this show was. I'm taking more money (or at least try to) with me next local show later this year.

The shows here get most of its dealers from the states immediately surrounding Iowa so "local" to me means within several hundred miles(<500) in all directions from Des Moines, the capitol of Iowa and about in the center of the state. My sights are on buying a specific date Liberty Seated dollar next show.
