2025 Proof & Mint Sets

TheRavenTheRaven Posts: 4,163 ✭✭✭✭

So the 2025 Proof set, the Silver Proof Set & and the Mint Set, these are sky high prices. The mintages don't seem low enough to suppose these prices.

What is the thinking here?

They've actually come down. There was a short run and a lot of people jumping on the "last cents". They were super hot last year.

All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

Prices are still in nutty land however. 2025 set or an early 50's set if we are talking about the silver proof set.

Not silver but why do I have proof and mint sets I can't give away?

I do fortunately or unfortunately, understand the opinions and frustrations when it comes to any mint products.

Is there any real reason to buy these sets at these prices? I can't seem to think of any. These are held in non collector hands, hoping to flip them for big cash because last year of the penny crap it seems to me.

I have on many occasions simply broken out the coins from mint sets and spent them.

But the 2025 FOMO has passed the peak but will linger for years.

I sold another 3 Lincoln set P and D unc and S proof for 439 yesterday, had already sold two sets at 459. $439 actually covers the cost of buying the silver proof set and the mint set and the postage for the three cents and leaves about $10 PLUS all the other coins after EBay costs, and the silver dimes and half dollar are quite popular too. It does seem to be cooling a bit though.

I honestly don't know. One think is most-likely for sure... You ask ten different guys and you'll probably get ten different opinions and explanations.

That is why I am asking on here. They are annoying holes in my collection. I can't justify spending so much on these 3 sets however.

You could always just pick them up from a coin show or gasp from circulation.

I agree. It's a balancing act. My collection strategy and theory throughout the years has been to start a series that I can reasonably complete within my budget.
