I was looking up some player stats and this occurred to me. I noticed Trevor Story is almost there and he’s only 33 years old. So I looked up one of my favorite players, Willie Stargell. Pops struck out 1,936 times and walked 937 times. So he’s at 999. 🥳🥳🥳 Way to go Willie, you’re still entertaining me long after you left us. You’re the best!
So without using AI, can you name a player who fits this category? The only other player I checked was Reggie and he was under 1k.

I made a mistake, Reggie is over 1,000 so I did get one. Reggie’s stats…..
Dave Kingman
i am going to guess Sammy sosa
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
yup, sammy had 2300 ks and 900 bb
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
It’s interesting because I know there are players like Mantle who struck out a lot but also walked a bunch so I don't even bother to look up their stats. Ruth also. Then there are guys like Rob Deer who I looked up he could have gotten there but wasn’t good enough to play long enough.
Deer was my guess Darin. i was just about to post and say i was wrong
Gotta go with King K Mark Reynolds.
Nice! I see he led the league in strikeouts 4 years in a row and the lowest of those years was 196 k’s. The 3 others were all over 200.
Watching Devers I’m gonna say he has or will.
Not yet but very good chance. Here’s his stats…..
Gallo would have gotten there if he could hit and was able to play a couple more seasons, Matt Williams was another one I thought of but didnt quite get there
Fire AJ Preller
Dave Kingman is one (1816 vs 608)
Chris Davis is another (1852 vs 555)
Andres Galarraga and Giancarlo Stanton are near the top of the list.
oh man, that is abysmal!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
How about Canseco? that guy struck out a whole bunch!
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
1942 strikeouts, 906 walks.
And then on the other end of the spectrum is Ted Williams 😂😂
holy cow, I would think that Williams and then ruth, bonds and maybe rickey would be the best for BB over K's
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
First name that came to my mind.
O'Neill Cruz might do it in 2026.
Some of these players swung the bat so many times that you'd think they'd be better at it, that they'd have developed a better eye and walked more or made contact more often. Sometimes it makes me think hitting is more luck than skill.

I found some interesting things looking into this.
Despite striking out 801 times more than he walked, Jim Thome still managed to get on base at a .401 rate with a .276 BA!
