Peace dollar, what was done to this coin?

Does anyone have an idea what was done to this coin? Is this an over dip?

If I zoom in, it doesn't show closer detail, so it's hard for me to tell what's going on. It looks maybe original UNC on the left side with unfortunate toning pattern, but the right side looks different. Additional higher-quality photos + reverse would be helpful.

That is really strange. It looks like it might not be a real coin, since it seems to be highly lustrous and appear worn at the same time. Plus the strange surface texture might be the result of a non-silver alloy?

It's definitely a 1921 Peace dollar, has been examined by several serious dealers where authenticity was not in question.

Is that actually toning? Or something on the surfaces? Did you try rinsing with acetone?

Possibly the dollar has been varnished and the varnish has cracked.

It was put in acetone, no change. I'd think the final option to make it market acceptable would be to wear it down so that the surface damage is changed.

Is it pitting or discoloration? I would try a coin dip like e-z-est.

Most likely Poor Storage. Heat and humidity takes its toll over time. Possibly some biological attack too.
