US Mint Kicks Off Sales for 2026 FIFA World Cup Commemorative Coins June 4

HalfDimeHalfDime Posts: 1,001 ✭✭✭✭✭

The United States Mint (Mint) will begin accepting orders for products in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Commemorative Coin Program on June 4, 2026, at noon EDT. Orders are expected to begin shipping mid-July.

However, so far this is not showing up on the official schedule, but that should change any day now.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup coins have been delayed since the start of the year, and as a result the US Mint has lost about 5 months of sales. These coins normally open up to sales early each January, and remain up for sale until late in December. This year sales are starting in June, so it is possible this becomes a low mintage rarity.

However, with nearly 7 months of sales ahead for these, there will be plenty of time for collectors to see how sales progress compared to previous years.

Do the "flippers" even care about these? Buzz seems to be absent.

Years from now, I expect this coinage to receive about as much attention as the 1994. No, I don't think the mintage will make any difference.

Sigh... those are not "commemorative half dollars". See the Red Book for details. Bags of circulating coins are not official commemorative dollars and half dollars. They've been minting that series for 45 years now. The current silver dollar price is $170 and, it appears, all the halves are now going to be $64. They used to be cheaper, but mint sets used to be $30 also

The duel date coins are only for this year only , How can one justify that price for a clad coin ?

The mint is making money on these as well . I don't see the justification of selling 3 coins for over the price of 200 coins . Let's not get into Helen Keller !

you get the wannabe fancy box, capsule and coa with the half. plus all the overhead that goes with it.

with rolls, you get paper wrappers and a generic box that does no good protecting the rolls

there was always a price differential

edit: and there is a surcharge to donate to the cause served by the coins

justify. for commemoratives, the org that receives the money doesn't get anything if tthe mint didn't recoup costs by eoy. in recent memory, the girl souts issues failed to sell enough and the mint kept everything. i take that failure to indicate they aren't gouging on commemoratives.. or weren't. i'm not sure how product pricing compares then and now.

i thought when the previous appointed mint director upped prices to make the product lines profitable that i'd see mint sets as a profit maker in the annual report. the last annual report i looked at had them still losing money on them.

forgetting the metal realities, if you had a copper plated zinc tablet and the mint charged you 3 cents to buy it would you object because it's just some piece of junk?? probably. it looks and feels like a play token

The dual date are still CIRCULATING COINS not OFFICIAL COMMEMORATIVE coins. Go read your Red Book. There are one or more just about every year from 1982 on. Those are sold separate, NOT distributed through banks, authorized by Congress, etc. There's even a 1994 World Cup coin in the series. And the commemorative halves are usually clad and paired with a silver commemorative dollar.

The dual date halves, though a one-year type are CIRCULATION HALVES and not COMMEMORATIVE HALVES.

If you don't have a Red Book, try the internet.

As to the price, have you seen the price of clad mint and proof sets. It's normal Mint pricing?

The US Mint has plugged in a bunch of fake inventory numbers into the system for the presale tomorrow. 8000 for gold and 40,000 for clad half. Last year sales were only about 1500 gold and 10,000 clad half.

Why is that "fake"? They are taking pre-orders. They have to choose a maximum mintage to commit to making.

These are going to have as much success as hotel rooms and ticket prices for the events...

    Because it doesn't exist.

Why didn't they just list the maximum mintage if they were using your metrics then?

And these will likely not sell anything close to what they have listed.

Why do they have an HHL of 1 for some products?

    It doesn't jibe.

Because they may not be committing to the entire mintage limit. Who knows? It's the number they are committing to selling at this time. They can bump it up or down later, depending on demand. I don't know why people are so confused by this. Everyone wants the available number to be the maximum mintage at all times. It isn't. So what?

The waiting room ensures no crashes. You might be stuck in the waiting room for 5 hours, but you can't crash the site if they don't let you in.

I’m doing the Monterrey (Mexico) show this week, and today I could have sold 10 sets here (well, maybe not 10 of the gold). The US Mint really missed out on the “hype sales” big time. Now is the time and there are no coins to be had.

The Mexican coins are already out and the Mexicans tell me the Canadian are out as well (though I haven’t checked).
