My Uncle Jack would always hide a package of his namesake gum in a large stuffed arm chair when my siblings and I would come to visit him at "the ranch."
First thing we would do is make a beeline for that chair and search behind it cuishons.

Share a Japanese Cultural Experience as Performers from Hokkaido Entertain on the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship
(To be fully entertained, grab the popcorn and enjoy the full 40 plus minutes.)
In the below linked video a dance troupe and a talented samisen musical instrument player join together to offer a unique cultural experience for the guests on a Diamond Princess Cruise Ship as it prepares to depart from Hokkaido’s Hakodate Port.
The Hakodate based performers offer a combination of traditional dances and traditional music is heard from the instrumentalist as he plays the samisen, a traditional Japanese instrument.

Earlier this week I participated in a presentation on the subject of how Japan is meeting the challenges of today's new world. The speaker noted how it is remarkable that in confronting those challenges in various ways it has maintained its cultural ties.
The above demonstrate in part Japan's successful efforts to maintain its cultural heritage.
Here are some screen shots from the presentation:
And yet through all of the responses to the challenges, as above outlined, Japan continues to preserve its identity:
