The knowledge he gave on AH Kennedys put a lot of money in my pocket.. Great guy.

    ‘Fresh meat!’ :D

I knew who you were talking about. 😉

He contributed a lot of knowledge regarding Kennedy half dollars to these boards.

I didn’t have a lot of personal interaction with him. He passed about two years after I joined here. His posts were very informative, though.

No, I never had a slab caddy like that.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Of course I remember Russ. I tried to find some of his postings, but no dice. They must have deleted his account. He was one of the greats.

Russ was an excellent coin photographer. He also had a way of writing more with less than just about anyone that has participated here.

It is hard to believe he has been gone going on 10 years.

I never ran into him at a local show and still regret that I didn’t ever stop in his computer shop—out of the way but not that far from me—when I had the chance 😔. He was always friendly… definitely one of the good guys.

I think I may still have my slab caddy put away somewhere. Anyone remember his toned 82-O gem Morgan that he claimed to pick up raw at a flea market for a song that became 65 at PCGS? His "flea market morgan" as he referred to it in some threads here. I bought it from him and then sold it later on flea bay :D

Hail the gift of memory in this fifty-second state. Who sold me down the river and shafts me while he waits. Outside the gates of Eden, star spangled and so late.

I'm sorry to hear he passed. I've been mostly away from the forums for a long time, but used to love reading his posts many years ago. He came to my defense in a heated BST thread many many years ago. He was a funny dude.

Thank you for making me aware of my typo - since corrected - in which I wrote “taking” instead of “talking”. And I’m so very sorry if you don’t think the below-copied post of mine in this very thread was positive.

“Russ was certainly a character, as well as a stand-up guy. He was extremely generous with his time in helping others - myself included. I had immense respect for him.

I don’t think he would be banned if he were here with us these days. He seemed to have a very good grasp of staying within the rules.

As for your Trade dollar - it looks far more attractive and original than the great majority that are out there!”

I just scrolled through OLD PMs to try to find the one where I actually asked him what it meant.

I also went way back to find when I asked him... unfortunately there's a string of PMs in my history where only my side of the conversation was preserved, so I can see where I asked (and various follow-ups) but not his replies.

I ran into that too. They were hard to find in the first place, and when I started to scroll you cold tell most (but not all) of his responses were gone. I was able to find one he'd sent me regarding shipping the Peace Dollar I posted - but couldn't find the "No Certification, No Education" response. (But I'm still confident I'm right).

I really liked dealing with Russ. Sorry I never met him in person.

    Cheers.

Talked with him for years on the forum(s). Met him in person at local shows. Went to his shop as well.
Front of shop was sparse but clean. Computer stuff (a couple video cards, etc). He would build computers for clients but main (non-coin business) was computer support for people/small businesses.
Back of shop, door behind counter, was his lighting/camera set up for the coins/collectibles. It was a small closet space that had the bench he would use to stage the photography for stuff.

NCNE... Novell Certified Network Engineer. I think he may have gotten that certification for his computer business as he would set up small businesses with networked computers and had done it for awhile.

VERY interesting life/work stories and very upfront guy. Talking in person with him was always fun and we would always look for each other at the local shows. He was tall enough to stand out and easy to find. A real bean pole in a crowd of coin people.
He and RickO were 2 of the first, local, ones I would get to know in person and the 3 of us would catch up at shows in Kent usually, as Russ' shop was minutes away from where the shows there were held. Not a great area, tbh, for his shop, but he was ok with it.

He and MadMarty would poke at each other on the forums and get each other going but had such a healthy bond that one would think they were real life brothers.

I still have 2 AH Kennedys in PCGS plastic that I got from him. Found recently when I was reorganizing. Finally going to sell them soon, I think. Probably through GC. Russ was the main AH person, I do believe, though MM would go to more, and larger, shows, find them and poke at Russ.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'll never forget Russ. He added a lot of fun to this site.
In his early days here, few were able to post really nice coin images but Russ could take almost any old junk camera and post great images using it. I remember him and Airplanenut teaching everyone how to image coins. I also remember how Russ could spot a Kennedy Half AH from a mile away. I still have a few he sold me.

He seemed too young to pass away and guessing by some of the content within this thread it appears perhaps it was due to cancer of some kind.

Wow...Russ left us in 2016, where does time go? I did have, for a number of years, 'The camera that made Russ famous' which I acquired in a charity auction here on the boards put together by Jeremy IIRC. My photographic results with it never came close to what Russ produced!

Actually it was a Nikon 950. We PM'd a lot and he helped with a good "dip formula" and then with photography after I found his same camera model on eBay. I still have it and considering the small file size it took great pictures. I still use the formula whenever I dip which isn't often anymore and I shared it with a number of other forum members.

I remember when his last name was mistakenly thought to be Kent!! :p
